Road Cycling - Crankset question...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Would a 9sp Shimano compatible crankset, work with campy 10sp? With double chain rings if that would make a difference. I figure distance between the rings should not be a issue but not sure if the width of the rings themselves would be a factor.

It'll be 100% fine. Of course, you also will need a shimano BB for your shimano crank.

I still haven't figured out why cranksets have 7,8, or 9 speeds. I understand thay are designed to be paired with certain cassettes as part of an integrated Shimano drivetrain but it appears to be just an attempt on Shimanos part to make things APPEAR to incompatible, when in truth they work fine with one another.
My humble opinion.
They all work. I use a Truvativ one on my Campy bike no problems.
Shimano's total integration is simply starting to bother me as people worry too much about mixing parts.
It'll be fine. I should post a pic of my road bike on here, with the race face road crank (no, not the one they actually made) and 8 speed XTR rear derailleur. Works great with a full 9 speed D/A setup.
I am looking at converting my road bike to a Cyclocross bike, so I could either replace the larger ring.. or go with a cyclocross crankset. 9sp might be a bit more durable for cyclocross but I already have a 10sp drivetain and everything so.. :)
