Do I need to put the star nut into my steerer tube? I put the headset on and It seems to be riding good but I didnt put in the star nut.

It was but then I just added a spacer and it seems to workout so far.
But I take that as a I should put it in.

Its gona loosen eventually, put it in now.

Yeah, anything that lets you tap it in slowly without smashing it should be good. I think people use blocks of wood to start them, I used a metal socket for a ratchet to tap mine down before cutting the steer tube.

I repeat. What forks don't come in with built-in preload systems, or at least welded star nuts, in this day and age?

With a welded start nut, how would you be able to cut the steer tube down and take out the spacers, yet still use a gyro on the same fork?

usually theres still some unstarnutted steering tube above the starnut.
