Mountain Biking - my favorite mtb is

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
hi mtbers,
of the mtbs i've owned and tried, my favorite is my jamis dakar 2.0.
what your favorite mtb?
I think the question is a little too broad, my favorite mtb for xc would not be my favorite for DH/freeride and my favorite mtb for DH/freeride wouldn't be a good choice if i had to ride on the road for 20 miles to get to the trailhead. and my favorite on road/off road mtb wouldn't be my favorite commuter bike for riding dirt roads through orchards to leave unlocked outside a busy store. However I only have 1 bike, a trek 4500, its ok on road with slicks, its ok on trails with knobbies, its not a dh bike but it handles well when going down long steep technical trails. It's not my favorite though, i couldn't afford my favorite. well actually i could afford my favorite, i just didn't want to. for what it's worth, the car i drive isn't my favorite either

Yes, that's why I think they should have a separate DH/Freeride or separate DH and Freeride threads on the main forum menu. Have been saying that for a long time. Nobody seems to want to listen.

well bmx usually happens on pavement, but they're not lumped together with road cycling. i think its because dh/freeride is closer to xc/trail riding than road cycling is to bmx. you could take a freeride bike on xc and it would be inefficient but you'd be ok, and you could take a small tough xc bike on a dh and do ok, just not nearly as good/safe as an actual dh bike, but if you tried road cycling on a bmx or bmx on a road bike it would just be ********. thats probably why they won't put it on the main menu, i'd think we could get a DH/freeride subforum though, like next to the mtb racing one at the top?
" my favorite mtb is " - The one under my butt. I have owned and still do too many to have a favorite.
Today was the first day for another new one. I just finished building up a Rocky Slayer frame. Today's ride confirmed it is now my new favorite. Tomorrow I may ride my 86' Peugeot ATB and then it will be. I am just happy to be out riding.

Yes man! I was thinking about that today, they really should do that. If would help out alot of people!
So far out of the mountain bikes I've owned my favorite has been my Ellsworth Truth. I'm hoping I like my Turner Nitrous just as much though. However I have a feeling I will continue to enjoy riding my Truth more but enjoy racing the Nitrous more.
Out of all bikes including those that I have not owned my favorite mountain bike is the Fat Chance "Yo Eddy".

In response, as I wasn't listening to the first one, is quite simply. We don't see a need. Most of us that frequent here ride mountain bikes. Dh, trails, fr or otherwise we are exactly what the forefathers (haha sounds odd) thought of. I ride anything I can as long as I am on a trail. If you want a pure fr forum, go to pinkbike. If you want a dh race forum, go to ridemonkey. If you want north shore riding, go to nsmb.com. If you want street and dh, go to hcor. If you want mountain biking, period, come here. We have a couple who race, dh racers, some freeriders, some street and lots of people who love trails. Thats not changing.

Freestyle bmx is on pavement but the racing is on a dirt track usually and I used to love to ride mine on trails and over dirt jumps. I used to race mine in the 80's I had a cw and a mongoose pro ;)

The amazing part is that no matter which style of riding each of us prefers for the most part we respect each other and manage to get along pretty well.

Hence why we don't want to change it. I used to want the different subforums but have learned to enjoy that fact that we all ride, as long as its on trails, its mountain biking, good times...:D

Thats why I enjoy all the pics posted on here.I love to see what and where everyone else rides. It makes for good discussions. It's good to hear a topic from a FR vs XC vs DH point of view.
.....as far as bikes I do like my Bullit a lot and I would love to try out a Transition Preston.:D

I love the way my Enduro rides....but I do wish it was a SX Trail so I won't worry as much on damaging it, but then again I don't go that big:D
My favorite mountain bike is my Niner SIR steel single-speed 29er. It's my only mountain bike, and if you wanted to trade me a Turner or Ellsworth or whatever I'd tell you no way in heck. It does everything I want it to, it looks good doing it, and it does it with very little maintenance. Maybe if I rode ski lifts to the top of the mountains I might want a big heavy DH rig, but I ride XC and this bike is unbeatable anywhere except on the flats, which I avoid, after all this is a MOUNTAIN bike were talking about.

The front shock mount is the only difference in the frames, don't sweat it, go huge.

Isn't the SXT also shorter? Which would make it stronger right? But really...might as well make use of the life time warrenty.:p
I'm going to be picking up a bigger bike for next season (travel-wise), the Cove Shocker is one of the bikes that has my interest.

My favorite bike was my GT Karakoram. Then I traded it in.
My favorite bike was then my GT Rebound. Then I bought a full-suspension.
My favorite bike was my Gary Fisher Z1 until I bent the frame.
My favorite bike was my Specialized FSR Extreme, bought it as a frame only and built it up to my favorite specs. Lime Green and mostly red components. I loved that until I wanted a hardtail again.
My favorite bike was then a Cannondale F2000SX, Red white and blue paint scheme. But then I wanted to ride more aggressively.
My favorite bike was then a Specialized P.3. But I wanted a bike suited to a broader range of riding.
Then I got my Intense Uzzi SL and that was my favorite until I cracked it.
Then I got my Specialized Enduro SX. It handled great and I loved it.
Then I got my current bike, my Specialized Enduro SX Trail.
This will be my favorite until my next bike!
