first post here in a while...
I currently ride a Hardrock Sport disc with 6" Tektro IO's all around. I am getting a 6" Avid BB5...
My rear brake currently is useless, but my front stops me acceptably. I was thinking of moving the rotor and caliper from the front to the back, and put the BB5 on the current adapter at the front. are there any potential problems with this? thanks

Usually calipers are front and rear specific. You will have to check with the manufacturer to be sure. Unless someone knows more specifics about tektros.

+1 not all front + back calipers are compatible (mounting-wise). I doubt any of them are. That is why on Ebay, sellers would specifically list if the brake is for front or back in bold letters.

anyways, just checked on jensonusa, apparently the IO is both front and rear compatible:

It does seem like it. In that case I don't see anything wrong with the setup you described although you might need an Avid adapter for the BB5 but I'll leave that to someone else.

Get a front bb5 and switch the front rotor to rear, and the brake pads from the front caliper to the rear caliper.

okay i've established that... but can the IO adapter work with the BB5 or will i need a new one? that's the new issue.

Once again, some of them are interchangeable. Avid and Hayes adaptors are interchangeable. Your best bet is to try it. If it works yehaw...if not you are out another 20$

Well then it seems like you don't have a choice. Try it and hope. Sometimes you can use spaces and a dremel to make foreign adaptors work. If it works without any work...you are good to go, if it doesn't work than you have some work and or $$$ ahead of you.

I would reccomend just ditching the tektro. I've got a BB7 on the front, so thankfully I don't have to use the tektro much more, but the one on the back is just complete crap.

and i know :) i've been aroudn the block a bit, ridden some nice bikes, got some experience with REALLY nice bikes, just don't have money to get one :)
i hear ya, who says money can't buy happiness? All I ask is for the chance to prove that money can't make me happy..
Sounds like you have 2 choices, see if you can jerry rig it if it doesnt fit, or stick with your current setup until you have the cash.

and due to a change of plans i don't think i'll have a problem anymore.
originally i was going to order a BB5 from Jensonusa which was an OE take-off, but bikesmart (thanks to this site i found out) has apparently the NEW bb5 WITH adapter for the same price, $39. the kicker? shipping's also $10 cheaper from bikesmart :)
looks like that's the way to go... and thru the picture on the bikesmart site, it seems like it's the 07 BB5 up for sale... so that makes me extremely happy.
