last semester some guy crashed my bike into a wall and bent the frame. all the components are ok but the frame is bent. I am looking to build a fixed on a new frame with the old components. I understand that I will need a new rear hub and probably a new cog.
How important is a track frame instead of horizontal dropouts?
Is it possible to ride with control without brakes on a horizontal dropout frame? (I am very partial to peugeot frames from the late 80's and I havent found one with track ends yet.)
Also, anyone have any tips for a first time fixed build? (websites for parts (other than sheldon brown) or must haves?
whats the best way to chop handlebars??

dropouts dont really matter. peugeot's are french, so they give you a few little challenges..

dropouts have nothing to do with riding with or without brakes
track ends/frames are not necessary. i have dropouts with very short travel and its adequate to give me chain tension given my gear
the easiest way to go , id say , is just to get a rear wheel from IRO -- 100$ for good quality rim, hub. different cogs have different width (distance outboard from hub).. EAI gave me good chain alignment with stock crankset without having to modify BB
handlebar tubing are soft and thin... chops with a hacksaw easily

A late-'80's Peugeot shouldn't be as difficult to work on as one from the '70's. All the ones I've seen from that era seem to have normal threaded BBs. Track/horizontal dropouts do not matter in this case, unless the chain snaps just after the nuts on the rear axle come loose. I wouldn't want to be riding a track frame then. I know a guy who's cousin's friend...Sad story.
