Any other Arkansas cyclists out here?
I haven't had a chance to pedal around the state too much. I like parts of Chenal Valley leading out of Little Rock and the Talimena Highway west of Mena.

A lot of bicyclists, mostly road cyclists, pass by my family's home on Highway 66 in Northern Arkansas, out of the Mountain View area. For mountain bikers, there is a mountain bike trail called the Syllamo trail, also in Northern Arkansas, around the Blanchard Springs area.

I ride from Drake Field in Fayetteville south on U.S. 71 through West Fork to Winslow to Mt. Gaylor. Round trip is about 43 miles, give or take a little. Change in altitude from Drake Field to Mt. Gaylor is about 800 feet, if I have it figured correctly. From West Fork south, there is a good shoulder on the road. Most of the heavy traffic is on I-540 to the west of U.S. 71. Other than a couple of flats, no problems on U.S. 71.
Tell me about the Talimena run.

I've only been there once. I spent Memorial Day weekend hanging around with a group of people who were doing street lugeing and Gravity Bikes. They were clocking speeds in the 60's and 70s without pedaling. I saw plenty of people riding road bikes as well. Lovely rolling road. I'm not sure how much the elevation goes up and down but some of the hills are more than a mile in length. If you get reservations, the Queen Wilhelmina Resort and Campgrounds is a cool place to stay with a great view and a cool train running around the grounds.
