I've surfed craigslist for years, and I love it.
I search local classifieds from newspapers online.
Haven't made it to any yard sales (yet!).
What else is out there?
Am I missing out on a great online bicycle classified?

Where are your favorite places for searching for used bikes?

We bought our bikes at local thrift stores.

My Specialized Rockhopper Comp cost $29 and Amanda's KHS (with Deore XT) cost only $14.99. Of course, the racks, packs, and other pieces costs extra (from eBay).

Thanks to my eBay addiction we were able to fully equip our tour for nearly nothing...read the full story (http://www.vwvagabonds.com/Bike/BikeTales02.html).

Yard sales and thrift stores (Losligato is correct)

It's 99% timing, so always keep your eyes open for quality bikes. I've bought 3 bikes in one week and not found one in over a year. It's tough if you really need a bike... it's better if you already have an ok ride and you can wait for a good deal.

Small town thrift stores seem to be the best.

I don't get hung up on sizes either-- I'll buy any quality bike for less than $50 regardless of size, becuase it has good parts and could be traded for another used bike that's the right size for me.

Ok, not as sweet of a deal as Los, but still, if I may say, my best score yet...check swap meets. 45 bucks.

Second the thrift shops--found my mnt bike at goodwill and toured the Natchez with it. Yard sales and peakin into peoples garages (when the door is open) can also net you a good find. Many people buy nice bikes and then let them sit in the garage collecting dust for years. Its worth it to ask if they will sell it.

There are stores that sell secondhand sports equipment on consignment, you can get some really nice stuff there.

I just scored a lugged steel Bridgestone MTB frame (Ritchey Logic tubing), fork & headset on eBay, I'm waiting for it to arrive. There are some really nice looking bikes on eBay if you look carefully.

Wow, crazy site! Have you (or anyone) ever bought anything through it? I assume it's safe (ie. to give them my credit card). Some good deals to be found for sure. Thanks!
