Bicycle Mechanics - Anyone using Take-Offs?

I have a question for you.
I can't for the life of me figure out what I need to connect the cable housing to the old downtube shifters location (secure the housing to the downtube).
If you can, take a closeup picture of where your old DT shifters were. I don't think I have the device needed to connect it, and I need to find out what I need to buy.
I ordered from eBay, so it was just a generic kit.
I've been trying random things (using zip-ties mainly), and have been unsuccessful for literally days.
PM me or post in here...hopefully I get a response quickly.

Do you have bosses on your downtube? Those are brazed-on things that stick out and have threaded holes that a shifter can attach to.

They attach to the shifter bosses and provide cable stops and adjuster barrels. The curved ones are very nice if you have a 1-1/8" downtube. They look very nice and blend in smoothly with the downtube. The $15 price is annoyingly high for such simple things... I got mine at a swap meet for $2 or something.

Yes, those are the same things that I suggested... except Harris has them for only $12. Good deal :)

This is what they look like. Shimano works with Campy on this, right? (I don't see how it wouldn't, but just want to be sure)

Aha! You have *clamp-on* downtube shifters. So what you need is a clamp-on downtube cable stop. They are also sold by Harris: http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/cables.html ... scroll down until you see this picture:

These are fairly ugly and $12 is quite expensive. I have several of these lying around in my basement, and they are of a much nicer low-profile style. If you tell me what the diameter of your downtube is, I can find one that fits and mail it to you.

As I said, there's a nicer (older) style that is very thin, just like your current shifter clamp. I'll take a photo of one tonight.

Ah, I see.
Look for a Sun Tour or Shimano cable stop for barcons or stem shifters.
Worse case, you can dismount the shifter levers you have and drill the bosses. Drill a hole small enough for the cable all the way through, and counterbore it from the top halfway through big enough to take the cable housing. ugly, but it works.

From the picture of the bike, it appears to me that he's got standard downtube shifter braze-ons, so I think you guys were on-target the first time by suggesting the Shimano stops from Harris and LooseScrews. Look again at his photo; there's no metal band around the frame, those shifters are on regular shifter studs.

On to the bigger picture: biolife, what mixture of shifters, derailleurs and rear cassette/freewheel are you brewing up? ...to address the question of whether it's all going to work together or not.

This is the little piece that is normally glued on there, but it came loose. On the other side it's still stuck on.

Ok, get a set of those Shimano cable stops that the guys linked to. Take the little piece off the other side, you won't want it on there when you have the Shimano cable-stop dealiebobs. The little piece is part of your shift lever, not part of the frame.

Your local bike shop probably has a set of the Shimano cable stops lying around that they could sell you, if you want to get along with your project right away.
