Our club didn't have an organized ride today so I sent out an E-mail to our local listserve and got a pretty sizeable group to come out and do a 64 mile ride. In honor of the ride I filled a cooler with Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Sierra Nevada Stout, and, in honor of Lance, Shiner Bock.

It is still really hot here in North Florida and I could not seem to drink enough to stay ahead of the sweat. We had planned a meal stop in Thomasville, Georgia but, when we got there, the restaurant was closed. I had eaten my single Clif bar and my one tube of GU earlier in the ride, not realizing that I would have to make it the last 20 miles on cookies and Gatorade from a convenience store.

By the time we got to within about five miles of the end of the ride I was feeling sick to my stomach and getting chilled. I had drunk three 20 ounce bottles of Gatorade and three bottles of water and was still getting dehydrated. Normally the thought of a beer at the end of a hot ride would be great, but by the time we got done all I could think about was getting some more water down. I really had no desire to drink a beer and was concerned about how even one beer would hit me in my condition since I still had to drive home. They don't call me One Beer Dick for nothing.

Another rider who finished before I did just posted to the local listserve that he had bonked really badly. I remember now why we quit doing that ride. It's a killer. At least my buds didn't drink all of the beer and I have a lttle left to help me enjoy the Florida State/Miami game tonight.

Enjoy the game! I'll be watching as well but there's no assurance I'll make it much past halftime....

Good ride today. Compared to me you drank a river. I drank 3- 24 ounce bottles today on a 105 mile ride. We had cloud cover for several hours so that helped.

For free SNPA I might have gotten out of bed very early and driven the two hours to do this ride. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is a world class beverage (and is usually in my fridge except for now because my wonderful in-laws brought me some Fat Tire). I have never had SN Stout.

Shiner Bock, on the other hand, isn't all that.

Hope you recover soon. I think if I ever came home from a ride not wanting a beer, my wife would call the coroner. :)
I'll be watching that game too to cap off a good weekend of high school and college football. I guess I'll be pulling for the criminoles, but won't be upset if the 'canes win it. Any team from the southernmost northern state that is not named after a lizard is OK with me. Woof!

I know that for my part the Gatorade would have been the killer. I'm not sure why, but whenever I've had that stuff, I get a sick, bloated feeling. Hope you enjoyed the game, and kudos for getting you and others out there to ride!

I have received E-mails from several other riders who struggled on that ride yesterday. I think we will save that route for cooler weather since there is very little shade after the first few miles.

That was a strange game. The Hurricanes only had two yards rushing and the Seminoles only had one. I only made it to the end of the first quarter before losing interest and going to bed. I never have been much of a spectator.
