I put raod tires on my MTB for commuting recently, Panaracer Highroad V ATBs. These are only rated for 40psi. I have been putting 50-55 psi in them and they still feel alittle spongy. I would like to try 70psi. Anybody have expirience with something like this? Maybe these are just the wrong tires for me, they were cheep, 9.95. ea at Nashbar. Thanks.

What does V ATB mean anyway?

It means cheap, $9.95 at Nashbar. :D Sorry about that, I couldn't resist. But seriously, it's pretty well accepted that you can inflate tires past their recommended max psi rating(because they're factory tested at much higher pressures than the recommended max. psi rating), but I wouldn't go so far as 70 psi in a 40psi rated tire. I had a front tire blowout at 25 mph once.........not fun. If you want higher pressure mtb slicks, there are plenty out there for cheap-

Perhaps you should get a set of higher pressure tires. There are plenty of good quality slick tires for 26" wheels.
