Southern California - next forum ride?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

caligurl, it may not be a forum ride, but you have a ride partner for Grand Tour Lite.
Dave, we'll have to ride around here sometime. You're crazy fast for a new rider.

here's the calendar as i see it:
9 sep - amtrak century for those who got in... free for a BF ride
16 sep - free
23 sep - free but day before grand tour lite... so not a good date
24 sep - grand tour lite... can become a BF ride!
30 sep - i have angeles crest century.... so not free for a bf ride! lol! :p plus.... several of you have:
1 oct - tour de poway
7 oct - harvest ride in ventura.... so could be free for BF?????
14 oct - FULL FULL FULL! baldy challenge; smog to surf; and 5 counties! WOW! when it rains it pours!
15 oct - palm springs metric
21 oct - las vegas century! gorgeous ride! anyone else in?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm ok for the Grand Tour Lite....I'll try to sneak out that Sunday.
Cali....just a thought.....perhaps you should list all upcoming rides in your ride thread, not just BF rides.....as I sometimes have to scramble to see if there are any conflicting rides dates and so on. It's nice to be able to see ALL upcoming rides at a glance.......:)

i can do that.... whichever is easier.... originally the thread was meant to be just BF rides... but i can see where it would be good to have the other rides listed!

ok..... take a look (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=222316).... i put red for no BF ride planned.... so open and available for planning a ride?????????
put in the other area rides but greyed them out.... so as to not over power the BF rides!
i put the date of BF rides BOLD!
how's that work for everyone???????????
Works for me. I'd suggest that any ride with enough BF attendees becomes a BF ride for the purposes of deciding whether to grey it out. For example, Poway clearly has enough BF attendees that we would be planning around it even though it's not a BF ride per se.

yeppers.... i agree... and had already fixed it! and have left grand tour lite not greyed... cuz i'm assuming... the nice ride that it is... that it will become a BF ride, too!

I have to build up to a hilly century! Let me get past my first century, then maybe I'll be confident enough for the climbing. :D
Any info on the Palm Springs Metric?
EDIT - 50 dollars - we will have to see about that - Jersey is top priority!
Hi,
What is this Baldy Challenge of which everyone speaks?
I hope to be riding by Oct 14th. :D

there's a link to the discussion thread in the stickied upcoming rides thread!!!

There's also a link in my signature. :) I'm looking forward to Baldy Challenge. It should be nearly as memorable as the Pie ride back in January. That ride sits #2 in my personal list of all-time cycling achievements (admittedly with a very short history). And #1 in my favorite group riding experiences.
Hmm, I might be able to schedule the Grand Tour Lite, although I probably would just do the Metric instead of the Century. Anyone want to do the Metric? I'll have to see what our family plans are first.

How about a BF Mulholland Challenge? We could start in the Calabassas area and ride to PCH and back. Tough 70 mile route with 7000 feet of climbing and light traffic. We could have a couple rest stops including Neptune's Net. It's a great ride when it's not hot.

Be a nice ride but likely some of the BF'ers might not want that much climbing, including me! Alternate route would be the return via Decker/Westlake and out Agoura Rd to Calabasas?

Hi caligurl,
How 'bout we have a BF SoCal ride that starts are your place (yours and SirLance's) or maybe a park (someplace with parking, anyway) nearby? I'm sure you could come up with a cool route for the BF riders, or maybe two routes; one for the climbers and one for the Clydesdales?
Then you could pick out a cool place to eat after the ride!
This way, you wouldn't have to drive to the ride at all.
Best Regs,
Rick / OCRR
That's what I keep telling caligurl. If she likes group rides but hates driving on Sundays, just set up Sunday rides out there. Then she can have group rides on both weekend days, and she wouldn't have to drive on Sundays.

You all are so fortunate to have a great active group that gets together for rides. Up here in the bay area we have a great group that mt bikes together almost every weekend, but for road rides I havent found a group yet. Just a few of us that mt bike together also road ride together, but mostly in the wetter months when the trails are too wet to ride.
I wonder if beer is a gret motivater for roadies like it is for mt bikers? We often bar-b-que and drink after mt rides, why not road rides too.

But I'll be in England from the 8th until the 15th of Nov. 2006 so I guess I'll miss that one. Sorry about that! Hopefully next time . . .
