Northeast - Good bike shop in Long Island or NYC area?

Hey guys, I am interested in purchasing my first road bike and would like to go to a competent shop and get fitted properly and test ride some bikes. My local bike shop is not very professional and in all honesty they make me feel uncomfortable in there store. They overprice all of there stuff and are there to sell bikes whether they fit you or not. I am 6' 265lbs and they sold me a 17" (Seat Tube Length, Center to Top is how they measure it) 2002 Specialized Rockhopper mountain bike. From my limited understanding this bike is way to small. They let you test ride bikes only in a 100x100 foot parking lot that is filled with cars. Enough of my rant about them.

I am looking for a good bike shop in nassau county or ill even drive to suffolk or queens. If there is a place with amazing deals and a great staff ill drive to brooklyn, bronx, manhatten, staten island, New jersey I dont really care. I am looking at trek, felt, and fuji so im not sure how many places carry any of those.

Any places you could recomend would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Others absoutely love Bike Junkie in Bethpage. Never been there, but all I hear are raves about the place.

You can also do a dealer search of the bike lines you are interested in, they all have a dealer link on their hompages. Find the ones that are close to you check all of them and see if they meet your needs and criteria for service. Good Luck

x2 on Brands from my two visits there for stuff. (I haven't bought a new bike for myself in a few years.)

Out east there is a small shop in Rocky Point which I love. The owner is Gary and he's a good guy. (I used to live out there.)

Bike Junkie is a great place with a real gentleman running the shop.

Sunrise Cyclery on Sunrise Hwy in Massapequa Park. Very professional. They have been business for 51 years, and has always been family owned and operated & very well respected in the area. Ask for Tony, he is one of the owners or Bob one of the salesman is also very knowledgeable. No one will push into what is not right for you.

Is that the shop that used to have the giant peeny farthing (isn't that what those old bikes area called?) out front?

HMMMM Peeny Farthing? I do not think I know what that is. I know as far as old bikes in front of the store, they have so many repairs that come in and people do not pick them up. For lack of room purposes, these bikes have to go outside during the day.

Personally, I think they should just get rid of them as the workers have to waste their time bringing them in and out on a daily basis when these people are completely inconsiderate to leave them their for as long as over a year.

Anyway, is that what you are talking about?No this was more a marketing thing. The Penny Farthing is the old old bike with the giant front wheel and the tiny back wheel. There was a bike shop somewhere between Freeport and Massapeakua that had one of them out front. I'm pretty sure it was a Schwinn Shop. (We're going back ~30 years.)
