Touring - Highway 75 - Tulsa OK to Winnipeg MB

I'm planning a trip from Houston, TX to Winnipeg, MB. North-South across the US, and a short trip into Canada.

I noticed that Highway 75 goes all the way from Tulsa, OK to Winnipeg.

Any comments on how good or bad a bike touring route this is?

Here in Ne. it is short on sholder in the south there is a trail along the river that may help with that. There is a trail threw Omaha I think there is a sholder up to the Sd. line.

Someone told me recently that highway 75 is badly in need of upgrade on the Canadian side. You might need to research if you should cross the Red and go north on the east side after the border (I'm not recommending this route, just suggesting you look into it.)
You might also want to research the 1997 flood and fire damage to Grand Forks ND, and stop by en route to see what progress they've made in rebuiliding.

I'd also suggest you check with Machka...she's a long distance cyclist who lived in Winnipeg 'til recently.

Hwy 75 is a freeway. There are minimum speeds and high speed traffic.

I'm in Dallas. And you're in Houston. Hwy 45 turns into 75 right in the middle of Dallas. Pretty much what you know about 45 is the same for 75 at least all the way to the OK border. I don't recommend it in TX at all.

Head NW from Abilene and pick up hwy 83.....goes all the way from Brownsville to Minot ND and on to Canada. Lightly traveled, mostly shouldered.
