the crank/BB spindle connection.
Uh, yessss. Grab your trusty 15mm socket and go to work, lest you bust/round out the interface.
Do it this minute!
Why is this at the top of the thread?
My cranks have been creaking when I start and at the end of slowing down, its a slower craking, not really a sharp snap, does anyone know what this might be? I don't know too much so I am nervous to go ahead and try and do anything to diagnose the problem, so if you guys have any ideas that would really help.

Tighten your chainring bolts?
Tighten your chainring bolts?
Checked it, and thats not it. Thanks though, any other ideas? I probobly will take it to my lbs, but if I could figure it out and fix it myself I would prefer that.

next guess is your bottom bracket needs to be serviced...

the next possible culprits are your saddle rails, or stem/bars
drivetrain creaks aren't always drivetrain creaks.
oh yeah, pedal spindles too

It can be just about anything on your bike, but I'm guessing its either the BB itself or the 'crank/bb spindle' connection
I intermittently get a creak when my left foot comes over the top, but I think it is actually the steering tube....I get a very similar sounding creak if I gently turn the wheel, and I notice that as I ride, I tend to steer a little from side to side with each revolution of the pedals. I'm not sure if the creak is due to bearings in need of service, or cable housing somehow rubbing against something. I'll repack the bearings this weekend.
