I thought I would make a new thread to show my "completed" Turner Nitrous. I still have a couple of parts I need to swap out for lighter ones, but it is pretty much done.

Here is what it looked like a couple of hours ago.

Here is what it looks like now, I even took the time to get a model for the picture. This is just a quick shot, I'll get some "glamour shots" of it later including some more detailed pictures.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b148/LowCel/Nitrouscomplete.jpg

As of right now it weighs in at 22.2 pounds. The build is very sound, no sacrifices of durability or safety in order to make it light. I do plan on getting it down below 22 pounds though.

Oh, on paper it's already 21.75 pounds. Too bad that doesn't count in the real world.

Very Nice !!!!!!

Stupid lite would be finding the correct seat height and cutting off the extra.

There is no extra, it's already 1/4" from the max insertion point. I may be ordering a new seatpost after my first ride on it.

No focking way. My "light" Schwinn Homegrown hardtail weighs in at 21.5 with my light wheels and the disc brakes. And that frame weighs 2 lbs. I call schenanigans.

I'm thinking UST wheel, semi-slick race tire, disc rims, 4.5 pound frame, SID, Juicy 7 [Carbon?], Turner post + stem, carbon bar, SRAM stuff, ti eggbeaters, light seat, light cranks, etc. It's possible to get to 21.75 pounds using XTR 970-series, but then you have to add in cables, which will put you over 22 pounds. So yeah, it's doable, but the cost for parts is around $3500 at full retail, with the frame on top of that. LowCel, does that sound about right?

Nice bike, BTW...

Yea, but when was the last time a homegrown frame was even produced? Times have changed, man. Welcome to the world of lightweight parts and empty wallets. There is even a sub 16 lb full suspension bike being pimped at interbike this year too.

Yo, lowcel. Whats up with that diagonal stay brace?

If you have a two pounds homegrown frame you have the lightest homegrown frame ever produced. Shoot, it would almost qualify as the lightest road frame ever produced. You may want to check your scale. The lightest homegrown frame I have seen proof of is 1361 grams, yet it was claimed to be 1315 grams. That is a 2001 Homegrown Pro. The Factory and the Limited weigh more. Here is a link (http://weightweenies.starbike.com/listings/components.php?type=hardtailframes) to them. Just so you know 1,361 grams is three pounds even.

Oh, here's a pretty picture. I changed a couple bolts and took out a couple extra links of chain. ;)

Beautiful. Make sure to take the appropriate Homer pictures and post it over at the Turner forum:
- one of the bike on a couch (i think should have been done with frame only)
- one of the bike leaning against a garage door
- one of the bike in its natural element

You then become an official homer.

Nope, hoping to take it out tomorrow or Friday. Tonight I have a group hammerfest on the roadie. I'm hoping to get time to adjust sag on the nitrous once I get home. Then just play around with settings a little before I take it out.

I just did a quick add up. From what I can tell it looks like retail would be right around $5,800 total for everything including ti / aluminum bolts.

The assymetrical chainstays allow more tire / mud clearance. They also allow the chainstays to be stiffer yet lighter than traditional.

It came with the RP3. First time I've had a pro pedal shock, looking forward to seeing how it works. I still don't think the Truth needed one though. I may change my mind after tonight's ride though.

ANY bike will benifit from better dampning control.

LowCel

ANY bike will benifit from better dampning control.

The shock that came with the truth did have dampening, it just didn't need a switch. The shock was actually "custom tuned" for the Truth from Fox. I never felt the need to have any on the fly adjustments on it. I just took the time to set it up properly. In my opinion having all of these high tech shocks has just made it so that frame designers no longer have to worry about improving frames to the point of near perfection. They rely on the shock to do it for them. In my opinion ICT is still a better design than TNT. However, having a shock with so much adjustment on the Nitrous makes them pretty much equal going by all the reviews I have read.

I still like what Tony Ellsworth says, if a bike needs a lockout it wasn't designed right.

Now, for the ride report........

I took the bike out for it's first ride last night. First thing I found out is that I need a longer seatpost. I need about another 5 - 10 mm. Unfortunately I am already at the minimum insertion level on the Masterpiece. I went ahead and ordered a Thomson Elite 27.2 x 410 mm seatpost this morning. I also ordered an XTR cassette to help offset the weight difference of the new post.

Next problem, I bled my brakes yesterday before the ride. Unfortunately I managed to get a little Magura Blood on the rotor. I thought I cleaned it off pretty well, I was wrong. I ended up going through the first half of the ride with no rear brake. That was fun.

Next problem, I forgot to tighten up my front derailleur clamp after getting it in the proper position when I built the bike. Unfortunately while I was out riding I didn't realize this, thought the cable was slipping. I "tightened" up the aluminum cable pinch bolt and snapped it. Oops. I ended up doing the second half of the ride in my small ring.

Now, from the best I can tell I still like my Truth better on the rougher downhills. No big suprise there. Now, on the tight flowing trails this bike is awesome. It amazed me how well it cornered even though I haven't built up much confidence in it yet. I can't wait until I get some saddle time on it and get used to it. Unfortunately I cannot give a good comparison on the climbs yet. I went out really hard on a group road ride on Wednesday that tore my legs up. I was still feeling it yesterday and as a result had no energy to give the climbs. I suffered on all of them, not the bikes fault though.

sounds like that steeper head angle makes a diiference...any problem with oversteer?

I'll be checking out our turner dealer later today...i'll check them out (if they're in stock)

nice bike...

Not yet, with all the little problems last night I wasn't able to really push it that hard for an extended period of time. I'm hoping to get a little better feel of it tomorrow. I'm heading to Lynchburg, VA to do a race on Sunday. Going to pre-ride it tomorrow.

Woohoo, just put on a new XTR 11-32 cassette and took off the 11-34 XT cassette (298 grams). I also swapped out the heavy XT skewers (120 grams) and put on my Q-stix titanium skewers (84 grams). Bike is now below 22 pounds, just barely though. My next weight loss trick will be washing it. It still has some mud stuck to it from the race on Sunday.

Isn't it purdy...should be as much as it cost!

I'm curious on to how you're finding the Selle Italia SLR seat. I was thinking of getting one for my new bike, but i heard they break alot when used on mountain bikes, so i might bite the bullet and go for the SLR xc. Just wondering how you find it to be holding up.
