Triathlon - Has anyone ever put drops on a tri bike?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Since those who are on the fence as far as whether they should get a tri bike or a road bike are usually advised to get a road bike first since it will work for group rides and such because of the drops, has anyone actually gotten a tri bike, and then later switched the handle bar and shifters to that of a road bike and perhaps still kept a pair of clip on aerobars? I am on the fence as well, but am actually inclined to get a tri bike, and am considering this as an option, but would like to know if anyone has done it. It sure would make for one kick-ass road bike if it works. The two tri bikes I am considering are the Felt S32 and the Cervelo Dual.

Changing bars and shifters is an expensive business. If you know you want drops and clip-ons, get a drops-equipped bike first, it'll save you a groaning pile of cash. They're also much easier to resell if you choose to upgrade - the old advice is pretty solid.

If you don't already have a road bike, you might find the handling of a dedicated TT/tri machine to be a little bit twitchy anyhoo ;)
