Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - Any way to totally ignore the P&R 2 subforum when viewing new posts?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Any way to totally ignore the P&R 2 subforum when viewing new posts?

Seriously...IMHO, that subforum totally leaves a bad taste in ones mouth and doesn't reflect the overall excellence that this site exhibits. I mean if I want to read op/eds about Bush being Satan or the GOP nominating a religous nut, or How there is no heaven or hell, or how liberals are hypocritical, or how vegans smell bad, or how I can get to heaven or how global warming will kill us all...I have a plethra of sites to choose from all over the web to have an intelligent discussion (or unintelligent whining rants) on these topics. I mean...cesspit isn't the word...its more like a cesspool...oozing childish rantings about everything and anything...and the bitterness of some posters is more disgusting then what I've seen on any forum on the web...again...it takes away from what is already an excellent web forum.

If there is no way to do this...I can live with it...

Just thought I'd ask.

I'll work on this today.

Any news on getting P&R II out of the View New Posts query? I miss the days when the New Posts page was mostly free of bickering nonsense, and you had to type "yes" if you still wanted to read the P&R forum.

I don't get it. When I log on to this website, no topic jumps out at me. What's the deal? Just click on the thread you do wan't to read and ignore the ones you don't. That's what I do.

You may be missing on one of the best features of BF. When the search works, if you click on the link View New Posts at the top of each page, you get a list of the most recent posts in all the forums. I find a lot of interesting information following threads fron the New Posts to parts of BF that I normally don't visit. At one point (before the long blackout of the search feature) I had

http://www.bikeforums.net/search.php?do=getnew

set as the homepage on my browser. Until recently, the P&R forum did not appear in the New Posts list.

Fixed it, P&R II is now password protected and will no longer show up in getnew or getdaily searches.

Joe, I can't get in to P&R II. Do I need a new password for it or an invite? PM me if you need to. Thanks,

Edit: Never mind, I figured it out! Thanks again!

Stupid question - but what's the difference between the two P&R sections?

It works perfectly! I totally appreciate this...and I'm sure others will as well. Keep up the good work Joe! And kudos to you again for improving the overall performance of this site...that is appreciated as well.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of this feature.

P&R II was a replacement forum when I upgraded the forum software and lost the ability to password protect a forum. I'll combine both forums and delete one of them soon.

The change lasted a few days, but somehow the P&R forum was able to sneak back in the New Posts query, and it is no longer password protected.

Huh?

It still works as intended for me.

perhaps once you log into the P&R section, it will show up in the new posts query?

Thanks! Could you do this for FOO also?
I think it would be great to only see CYCLING info on the new posts page!

I cleared the cookies on my browser and P&R posts are no longer in the New Posts list. Yea!

This is a great feature, but it's more then just P&R II that makes it un-usable. I think we're looking at this backwards. Rather then taking forums out, I'd love to be able to have View New Posts only show posts from the two or three forums that I visit. Lately I'll hit 'View New Posts' and it'll be 20 pages long! If I could go into settings and tell it, only check Road Cycling, Racing, and A&S then it would be usable again.

This is something I have been wanting to do for ages. I'll send the idea back to my programmer and see what we can figure out.

with the 'view new posts' feature i end up posting all over the place. i really don't even check the subforum too closely...if i see a topic i like i'll just go in and make a typically worthless comment or unfunny observation. i've posted in BMX, P&R, Foo, Road cycling, 50+ forum (don't tell dnvrfox), training, general, regional, etc.

We have a load of folks pre-50 who find refuge in the more gentle and kind manner of the 50+ forum.
