He can get away with it probably, but I personally need my brain in order to do my job. I agree that in the majority of crashes, a helmet either does nothing or only stops superficial damage, but I'll gladly wear a helmet the rest of my life to reduce the chances of brain damage from 1 in 500 to 1 in 2000 per lifetime. (made up numbers to make a point).

I always wear a helmet while bicycling. I always wear a 3-point restraint while driving or riding in a car. I am proud to be a wimp.

Actually, I crashed once going 36mph without a helmet and was mostly fine (I had plenty of missing skin, but no head injuries) The thing is, if I crashed the same way again I may not be so lucky. :o The guy I used to share an office with listen to G. Gordon Liddy during the day, and most of the time he seemed like a fairly reasonable guy. But every once in a while he'd say something that was just off the wall and illogical. *shrug*

I doubt G. Gordon did though. How could he be sure that was the speed? Back in his day, chances are, he just felt he was going fast (for him). He'd have to back that up for any chance of people believing him.
