Girls don't like to see big numbers in relation to their bodies. :D

I think Brandy's got a big set of numbers she's happy with, no?...:D

I have a stock C'dale seat you can try; I gave up on it but you can still try it out. On that seat, Lycra w/pad + mtb shorts == good and comfy; lycra w/pad only +25 miles == fire.

 Congratulations! They're great frames...what color did you order? Do you miss the feel of a steel ride...?...:D
It will be the stock blue. I haven't had a soft riding steel bike since my Landshark in 1991. The bike before my Cannondale was a Dave Tesch which I rode for 11 years. It was as stiff as anything I've ever ridden, just brutal on rough roads, a crit bike. I hope the Gunnar will be comfortable for my aging body. The geometry looks like a good fit on the 62. That's another problem, most bikes don't fit me.

Thanks Gretsky, but I probably have the same Bontrager you do that came stock on my bike. Unfortunately, I had to sit on the ass-o-meter and it told me that I have a wide ass. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/ptbryant/boohoo.gif

no no no NO! not a wide a$$... wide sit bones... it's OK! most women do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's all this jabber have to do with shopping? :-)

Most recent purchase was a box of Cliff Shot Blok's. My best recent purchase was a pair of DeSoto Sports 400 mile bib shorts - these shorts are awesome!!

Getting back to the shopping thread, I just ordered & received from World Cycling Productions a Demarchi Contour Longsleeved Jersey and a Demarchi Contour Plus Skin Bib Tight. It will be getting colder soon, and after some of the rides last winter I decided to be more prepared for the cold than I was last year. WCP had these items on sale, saved about $50 on the two items.

Demarchi makes excellent cycling shorts/bibs, the chamois is great, even after a double metric my backside still feels okay. I've never tried ASSOS which is suppose to be the best & you pay for it. The only other short/bib I have found to me equally comfortable is the top of the line Specialized BG.

First your seatpost collar. Then the cranks. If you're going to go about replacing every part of your bike, why not just go buy a new bike? :p

Hi John,

Steel is still very real. :)

BTW, given your bike history, I would almost bet that I met you before. I also know what you mean about getting stock frames to fit. Not that I'm tall -- because I'm not -- but my leg proportions (upper to lower) make it hard to find a stock, small frame that lets me sit over the pedals properly.

Anyway Gunnar frames are very cool. :D

Thanks, Cleave. If we haven't met, maybe we will at an upcoming ride, maybe at Joshua Tree in Nov., or another ride as soon as you are back on the bike. Are you riding yet? I know you got hurt in the car and I hope you make a 100% recovery.

Add me to the list of recent purchasers of the Specialized Toupe.

I was really hesitant to change a component that vital a week before Everest Challenge, but recent looong days in the saddle training for it have made it terribly evident that my old saddle was not working for me. When you're an hour into a 4-6 hour climbing ride and can't feel your junk (Yeah, I know. TMI. Sorry.), something has to be changed.

Just put it on last night, so all I've done so far is today's easy 45 minute recovery spin. Not long enough for a true test, but it feels pretty comfortable so far.

Have a 2 hour tempo-climbing ride on the schedule for tomorrow. Hopefully, with this new saddle, it will be a more pleasant ride.

Hi John,

Recovery is going very nicely. The acute pain is almost all gone. I hope that the bones are knitting on the fast side of the predicted 4-8 week range. The doctor doesn't want me on the road for another week and a half. Don't know if my credit card can stand this convalescence period -- been buying too much stuff on the web.

I will definitely get on the trainer this weekend. Time to cue up the old TdF DVDs. Hope to be 100% (skeletally) by Joshua Tree. I know that I will be sporting some unwanted poundage. :( At least I'll be riding. :)

+666

I thought they were just cut-off tube socks. I bought a pair of Pearl Izumi, and they are awesome.

I also bought:

Performance Elite Bib shorts
A little bit small on the thighs, but I like the chamois and the overall fit

Performance Ventoux jersey (aka SoCal jersey replica)
http://www.performancebike.com/product_images/150/10-6292-RED-FRONT.jpg
The fit is a bit snug for me, but I need to lose weight anyways. The zipper is not as smooth as I wanted it to be.

Same size as your jersey (assuming theyr'e from the same brand). Unless you have skinny/big arms.

Yes it would! You should get the Shimano compact (Ultegra quality, but not labeled as Ultegra) instead. :p

470 miles later, I've never dropped the chain or had trouble with shifting chainrings.

But the double is only $200. I guess what's $50 more for the compact, right?

I think I can use the bearing cups from my Truvativ.

Lemme see... I "paid" $267 for mine, including BB. Actually, I got it in exchange for the OEM FSA carbon 53/39 cranks and BB and got a $3 refund since it was slightly cheaper.

voltman
09-15-06, 11:59 PM
That's a great deal. I can either price match at $250 now, or what until Performance has another 20% sale and get it for $208.

jschen
09-16-06, 12:04 AM
Personally, I think for riders like you and me, a compact makes great sense. A 50 chainring puts us in the middle of the cassette for flat ground efforts at a cadence of about 90-100, and there's plentiful low range (especially with a 12-27) for the big climbs. You lose only half a gear on the low end compared to a triple (30/25 low gear), and you lose only one gear on the high end (but I can still pedal to about 45 MPH/~145 RPM). The half gear loss on the low end is tolerable, and on the high end, I'm generally tucked and coasting by then anyway.

voltman
09-16-06, 12:06 AM
I actually wouldn't be losing anything from the 36. Just a couple extra upshifts when going to the small ring.

DaveSANYYZ
09-16-06, 12:59 AM
Voltman, I thought you already have a compact?

I think the external bearing cups are compatible, but I'd just change it to the Shimano one if you switch. They are sold as part of the crankset anyways.

I don't think I can do much to my bike. The carbon accessories don't really match my matte silver alu frame.

Searching high and low for a place that carries Nike arm warmers, to no avail. Not about to spring for them on their website for $38 shipped. Incycle in San Dimas had just got their Specialized ones in (brand-match for my bike), but only in M or XL, and I'd like a large. The other two Incycle stores don't have any at all. So I'll head over to Performance later on today and pick up a set of PI Therma Fleece's . . . unless any of you have any better suggestions . . .

Never seen the Nike arm warmers...

Just got the PI therma fleeces for $19.99 at performance last week. There were two different prices on the shelf tags, though, $19.99 and $23.99. I told them that, and they gave them to me at the lower price.
