The gas prices sure are high lately, here it cost 80 cents per litre, if you fill your tank twice a week, you will be broke in no time. I can't wait for summer to arrive so I can cycle and laugh at those who pay those prices. Also public transit is a joke as well, $1.75 per trip. My bike cost me 0$ to ride.

Price around here is $2 a gallon.. if my math is correct that is just slightly higher then you. I know it cost me $30 to fill the gas tank in my car the other day.

It's running about $1.59 (US) per gallon for cheap-O gas...

I laugh at them as I ride in the winter... oh wait... perhaps it's the other way around! ;) In the last 5 months I've spent $10 bucks on gas. Once I start driving my car in the spring (recreational driving only) it will go up to about $40 a month.

BTW: 81.9C/Liter here in Regina.

It is 81.2 here in Toronto. I'll find out the Montreal price this weekend. It should be higher.

$5/gal. I run VP high octane fuels so the price at the pump is realy nothing if I have to use it.

It was $1.59/gallon when I filled up at lunchtime. An hour later, I was headed out for a meeting & I noticed that prices were up to $1.79 a gallon! That's a 20 cent increase within an hour! I'm glad that I only need to fill up the ol' gas tank once every 2 or 3 weeks.

It's over USD$2/gal for me but I'm not concerned since I've only been filling up once every month. My real concern is not driving enough and having the battery deep-discharge. I've switched to deep-cycle on my Jeep because I've already ruined one battery.

On the plus side, I saw in a TV interview where they were asking some locals what they'll do if gas prices continue to rise and some of them actually said they'd start riding their bikes.

It can be found as low as 1.43 gal around here.

You could try a solar trickle charger to keep the battery from going flat.

I don't like paying $2.14 for premium here in So Ca...but, I understand it. What's frustrating though is CA pays substancially more then most other parts of the country.

I paid $1.71 the other day. I think it's up to $1.80 now.

I guess I could do that and keep the Jeep out in the driveway. I usually keep it in the garage. Perhaps I should attach a dynamo to my trainer's flywheel. |8^)

From 85¢ to 89¢ CDN a liter in Montreal, depending on where in the city and what day of the week. It usually goes up on wenesday evening. Go figure... it's payday and everyone fills their tank.

Here in New England the prices fluctuate almost hourly from $1.46 to $1.60 for the cheap stuff. Going to school and hockey practice I run about $10-$15 a week. It's too bad that I can't haul my hockey equipment on the bike.

I think you can attribute your higher costs due to California's more stringent anti-pollution regulations, and their effect on what additives or lack their of goes into your gas.

It's too bad those additives do as much if not more harm to the environment than what they were meant to prevent.

I dunno. I haven't had to buy any lately. Haven't gone by a gas station in the last week, either. I'm sure I'll get sticker shock next time I tank up.

I paid $2.09 for regular the other day... sucks all over... my company is supposed to move in June or so.. probably a lot closer to me... I'd bike commute now, but at 30 miles each way... it's a little tough...

67.5 cents/litre for regular in Calgary.

And, with daytime highs of -25c (-35c with the windchill), I'm thankful I can afford to carpool to work. Call me a wimp, but this weather is not conducive to bike riding especiallly with the amount of ice and snow on the roads.

It's around a dollar per litre here in Perth but it has been up to around $1.10 recently and it's likely to head that way again soon.

Gee I'm glad I ride a bike. There's not way our family could sustain 2 cars.

Another factor is taxes. Most people don't realize what a huge percentage of the pump price is state excise taxes, and CA isn't exactly known for low taxes on anything...

Monday I paid $1.51 for regular here in N. Texas. That was the first time it's cost me $15.00 or more to fill the tank in my little Neon. I have to fill up again tomorrow and it will probably cost me $16.00. I'm sure glad I got to telecommute two days this week. I would be even gladder (okay, happier, for you English majors) if I lived close enough to commute on my bike :(

$1.80-2.00 per gallon. I have to wonder how public transit is handling this. That's nearly a fifty percent increase in fuel costs compared to six months ago, but they haven't yet raised their rates.
I was talking to another person about this today and he brought up an interesting point regarding prices here in the US. Naturally, alot of the inflation is due to OPEC and the tension in the middle east. It is further compounded, however, by the civil strike in Venezuala, where we get an approximately equal amount of oil.

What's worse than paying $2 for a gallon of gas is paying $1 for a single pint of water. The most plentiful thing on earth and we are going to charge an arm and a leg for "special" water. From the tap it costs almost nothing and if you let it sit in the fridge for 2 days the chlorine and chloromaine all evaporate and it tastes just like bottled water. Go figure  .

Or get a Britta (sp?) pitcher. Has a little charcoal filter in it. Removes just about all the particulate contaminants and a significant amount of the chlorine smell/taste. Our oldest got us one for Christmas and we haven't bought bottled water since. We used to buy six gallons of spring water a week for drinking because our tap water is so nasty. I just changed the filter last week. Let's see, roughly ten weeks and one six-dollar filter vs. almost ten dollars a week for "cheap" spring water...

Its about 78.9 pence to the litre here.

3.79 litres to the US Gallon = £3.00 to the US Gallon

$1.60 to the £ = $4.80 to the Gallon.

So no trucks or large SUVs here ;)

place where i live the gas price for
Octane98 is US$1.53 per liter (HKD$11.85)
Octane99 is US$1.65 per liter (HKD$12.75)

gas in HongKong is so epensive !!

DanFromDetroit

Ordinary unleaded (87 Octane) about 1.80 USD/gal or 48 cents a litre.

Gatorade (Fierce Melon on sale): about 4.76 USD/gal or 1.25 USD/litre.

I think we need to move troops to the Illinois border. This should help stabilize the price of Gatorade and ensure it's continued availibility :).

All things are relative. That's cheaper than what it was in the US ten years ago. Admittedly I'm extrapolating because with exception of a very few gas stations, it hard to find anything over 92 octane although I remember in Michigan, most gas stations offerred 93 octane.

D*Alex
03-07-03, 12:58 PM
Umm....US octane ratings are an average of Research and Method octane values. Those numbers used in HK are Research octane numbers. They are equivalent to 93 and 94 octane (roughly).
BTW, when was gas ever $1.53/litre anywhere in the US? That works out to about $5.80us/gallon! Even in places like Italy or Portugal, gas 10 years was never more than about $4.50us/gal. 10 years ago, we were paying less than $1us/gal.

I remember seeing a sign at a local gas station in Michigan that had prices listed for unleaded, midgrade, premium, and milk. Being the smartass I was/am, I went inside and told them I couldn't find the milk pump.

Here in Orlando, Florida you can buy it for about $1.67 per gallon. If you go near Disney World it is right at $2.09 per gallon. If you drive to Orlando buy your gas BEFORE you get near Disney.
