I'm new to cycling in NY and have heard about the Westchester County Trailway (north & south) as a biking route.

Sorry if this has been covered in earlier forums, but is the Trailway suitable for road riding? Website says that it's a paved cycling & pedestrian path (and stretches for 36 miles, which is appealing), but was wondering if it's any good for proper cycling?

Any advice appreciated, thanks.

I've ridden it a few times and its paved completely in Westchester, and I can say for a fact a little ways past Mahopac in Putnum County, and might even be paved completely to Carmel. It's fairly flat (railtrail) and some sections merge with some heavy traffic roadways, and frequent road crossings when going through towns. Other than that its a nice ride, but a boring one if you do it too often. According to my GPS, distance from Eastview to Yorktown heights is 16 miles one way.

i did about 40 miles roundtrip on it when visiting some friends up there. don't remember which towns i went through. i found it a nice ride. some of it is kinda bumpy, like a lot of MUP's. i actually was able to ride it pretty fast, and i averaged close 20mph for my trip. of course, i was riding during a weekday and so there weren't a lot of people on it then.

Rode it again today, for some easy distance. Exactly 15 miles on my GPS from the Eastview Parking (exit 23 on the Sawmill ) to Yorktown Heights. What are MUP's.
