I'm looking for a path racer frameset (brakeholes, fender eyelets, **** YEA!) to build up as a winter/foul weather bike and I was wondering if anyone knew of any good places to look for them besides ebay. Thanks!

I posted a wanted ad on CL about two months ago and picked up a Malvern Path racer in SF. I would post and see what happens.

reliability is a must, but there's a lot of value in a bike that you're not going to worry about getting stolen. one that you beat on hard because if something bad happens to the bike you wont lose any sleep.

i just ordered an iro rob roy, which has no bling value but it does have brake holes, canti pegs, fender and rack mounts. a bargain conversion would likely have most of the same.

Kogswell Model G would be a cheap option if you can find one. Not vintage, but I wouldn't want to make a rain bike out of a vintage path frame anyway.

Otherwise I guess I'm gonna also have to bust out the "c (http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/2005/dec/DevotionFinesse.htm)" word here.

that bar/stem combo on that raleigh is awesome. i've been keeping an eye out for nice road frames here locally to convert.. i just thought a path racer might be fun.

I have an old Nishiki olympic that was given to me. I had some track ends installed, the frame shaved, powder coated, moustache bars, fenders.
A most gentlemanly foul weather machine. Comfy, and stylish.

Pic- as requested. See by now it was supposed to be built up. Until some jack@ss broke into my aptartment lobby and stole my other bike. Funds have now been diverted.

As for who I bought it from, locally in SF, I don't think it was the guy you were talking about.

Could try Craigslist.
Just picked up a 1980's Dawes road bike for $80 today.
531, chrome fork, fender eyelets and nice long horizontal dropouts. Only thing nasty on it besides the handlebar wrap are the galvenized spokes on the rear wheel. They will be replaced before appearing in public.
It should be fixified by next weekend.

I'm actually planning to fenderize my current singlespeed frankenmountain bike for the winter.

I'm going to have to second (third, fourth) the Bob Jackson. The Vigorelli has optional eyelets for fenders, etc at no extra cost if you want them. It's my favourite bike and the one I ride the most. Simply comfortable. For the cost, and for what you're looking for, it can't be beat.

It might be more practical to choose an old road frame with horizontal dropouts for a winter/rain bike that's gonna have full fenders. It's much easier to change a flat when the wheel comes out forwards. I know there are ways around it, but for a dedicated winter/rain bike it's probably worth asking yourself whether you really need track ends. I ride my track bikes all year round and get wet, but we have to admit that track ends don't provide much functional benefit.

You could always save a few bucks and just get that new kona.... That would be the option that saves the wallet the most.

Theres a medici at Black Sheep Cycles right now I think the shop owner is wanting to let it go for a little over a grand, its drilled for brakes. I think its a 53-54ish i can measure and find out componets if your interested.

Word. I love my ANT and it loves me.

Of course, you'll pay $1400 for a completely unsexy frame. :) Personally, I was all about that. Nice and nimble--but not insane--geometry with all the fixins for fenders, racks (both rear and *front*), and bottle cages. Oh, and I guess Mike's lead times have gone up quite a bit.

But yeah, dude.
