Got it now. Seen that a million times in SF. Some people arent smart enough to own a bike.

That rack would make it difficult to lock the bike's frame to it, except at the ends of the rack.

Thats why you dont lock your bike up on those with all the other knobs. ;) Obviously the guy who designed the rack is a knob too and hasnt ridden a bike since he was 12 years old.

That's about how a buddy of mine locks up his bike... when he actually does lock it up.

I don't own a bike lock.

I also don't know where the keys for my home's front door are, and I leave my garage door open pretty much 24/7.

Ahhh, it's nice to live in a tiny community in the middle of nowhere with good neighbors. :)

That really sucks. But the bike owner should know better.

Same buddy who locks his bike like the above also leaves his front door unlocked when we go out or his garage door open when we go for a late night ride.

I can't figure out if he and his wife just live in a good neighborhood, or if they have some terrific karma. Nothing, as far as I know, has ever been stolen. Not even his Honda CB350 in which he leaves the keys when it's parked in the garage...

lol...+1

We also leave the keys to our cars in the ignition, or in the glovebox if we're feeling saucy (back home in farm country, not buffalo)

You mean the key comes out of the ignition? :D

Do they fix that under warranty? Or is it something you can repair at home yourself?

On the same, totally off topic . . . um. .. topic of living in farm country, I got wicked psyched this morning when I realized I was closing in on a tractor a few miles from home. I mean, for once, I was going to PASS SOMETHING! :D

Unfortunately, he turned off in to a field moments before I reached him. :(

Eboo

lol, was it my dad?

excellent use of the word "wicked"

you could always turn into pasture and bike circles around the bovines.

Heh. I didn't even realize I'd wickeded in that post until you pointed it out. :D

Unless your pop works on the Holmes farm, it wasn't him. And if it was, that would be kinda spooky, since I think I'm related to them all.

Something tells me my wimpy little 700c x 23 tires wouldn't get very far in a rutty, muddy pasture. :( Maybe I need to break down and get a mountain bike after all.

Ahhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are we cousins?!?!?!? No way!

SaabFan
09-08-06, 08:56 AM
You're kidding, right?

The Holmes family is like twice removed or something so we wouldn't be "real" cousins at least!

Eboo
09-08-06, 08:57 AM
:p I'm kidding. We're not Holmes. I hope I gave you a heart attack. But not a real one. More like a tickle, really.

Eboo

Well, hey, if it's for the sake of saving your life, I think I'd have to!

Oh, on topic...there is a "bike" on my street that has been locked up like that picture for two weeks now...I think the owner doesn't want to 'fess up to his...specialness.

If there was a wheel locked to a rack like that where I lived, I'd be tempted to do dumb stuff to it. Like, umm. . . . duct tape a rubber chicken to the hub, or something.

Yeah, on a rack like that, you should either remove the front wheel and lock it to the back wheel and rack, then use a second lock to lock the frame to the rear wheel.

OR

Use locking skewers.

This is where I love my oddball of a folder, they need a torque wrench and large torx bits to remove the wheels, so just a locking mthod like most of these folk's will work just fiine for my folder.

....well unless some cheeky bastid steals my seatpost.....where can someone find a seatpost the size of a medium sized sword?

I used to live in a small town like that, but now I'm away at college and things are completely different here. Last year I had my bike seat stolen (they had tried to take the whole bike, but it was locked up good). This year, our house has been broken into several times on the weekends, and my roommates bike was stolen. I really don't like living in a college town. :(

My question is: what happened to the rest of the bike?. Unless thay stole everything besides that wheel.

Someone at my school locks up their bike like that.

I use the U around the seattube and rear wheel, and cable going from the U to the front wheel. Almost theif proof! Almost. . . .

Maybe the guy stole the bike and left the wheel:eek:.
