Bicycle Mechanics - Dumb road bike pump question

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I know this is a dumb question, but i'm gonna ask anyways...I have a Topeak Road Master Blaster...supposed to fit under the top tube. it only comes with one little velcro strap...how in the world is that thing supposed to stay firmly mounted underneath the top tube? does it "lock" in place or something?
You use the pump peg (if your bike has one).
thanks...but no pump peg on my bike :-( Guess I'll just get another velcro strap.

Dont you think the straps will hurt the paint? Nice bike.I got the smallest pump and put it in my saddlepack, nice and neat.
With a short steer tube, you shouldn't have any problem mounting a frame pump there.

If he's like me, having anything on your back while riding is a less-than-desireable experience. If it doesn't fit on my bike somewhere, it stays at home.

Get a CO2 inflator like the Ultraflate. Learn how to use it. Throw it in a seat bag or jersey pocket. Carry a couple of CO2 cartridges too. Sell the pump to someone who has a peg.
One of my bikes has no pump peg. The Ultraflate has always gotten me home.
What size did you get? Can you fit the pump vertically along the seat-tube by wedging the ends against the BB and the top-tube? If you do decide to go with a CO2 inflator, think about getting one that has a mount you can attach alongside your water bottle cage. I have the SKS Airgun and it mounts nice snug against my bottlecage.

I just dont know what it is... I ride about 99% of the time with a 10-12 lb backpack and sometimes just forget its even there. I just dont see what the big deal is riding with a small backpack... maybe because I am a backpacker and 10-12 lbs is almost nothing. To each their own I guess.

Most full-size frame pumps fit along the seat tube. the frame angles at the ends are acute, so the pump stays in place, but you do need the right length of pump. The top tube mounting only works with a peg.
Shorter mini-pumps can be mounted alongside a waterbottle cage in an attatchment which comes with the pump.
