Ok.....an odd condition that I'm not sure what to do about.
This started about 10 years or more ago....it was back in college. All of a sudden, "out of the blue" one day I started getting these dizzy spells. They would happen every few (3 or 4) hours or so. It lasted all of about 2 days and then disappeared.
I never went to doctor about it, because it's kind of an elusive thing even if they are happening, much less going in after the fact and telling the doctor about them. I mean what can he/she do?
Then they came back....but they are VERY RANDOM...so I could never make it to the doctor while one is happening. They probably come on about once a year or so, and occur randomly every few hours or so for a few days and then go away.
I just called and cancelled my ride for the morning because a really strong one came on and I thought it might not be good to be on a bike when I suddenly end up in never never land for a minute or two. It feels a lot like a head rush....you know when sometimes you stand up too quickly and get a major dizzy spell.
Anyway...anybody ever had or heard of anything like that?

I used to and sort of still get heart murmurs/flutters that happen like that. I just ignore them and work though them because i dont have the millions to run to doctors and i hate doctors.
I'd study diet changes and see if there is something that you're not eating or perhaps are eating or drinking or perhaps some medicine or perhaps some chemicals you are around that trigger .

Do your ears bother you (serious question)?

Uh oh. I get them all the time. Remember my thread about passing out? I still get them. And I get into trouble for not going to the Dr. No answer for you other than that maybe you and I should both make appts. Boogs was saying something about the blood flow might be interrupted to the brain or something like that (he works in a hospital) but I kinda tuned it out because I guess I'm afraid to really find out. :o
Hugs to you, my bro. We really should go. Maybe it runs in the family. ;)

TG...I've thought about that and tried to look at it before, but I seriously can't think of anything different in my diet right now that I was/wasn't doing 2 weeks ago.
Ritehsedad....do you mean do my ears bother me when it happens? Then no. Do they bother me in general? I do have some minor hearing issues diagnosed...nothing that impairs me or anything. If you are going for an equilibrium thing, then I don't "think" its that....it's more like a full up head rush than just an equilibrium imbalance.

But to what end? It's so random, how can I explain it?
That and the fact that I hated my doctor...just changed to a new one and haven't even seen him yet.

How is your blood pressure in general?

Siu, if you are passing out, it is because the blood flow is being interrupted. Fainting is a good example. Please get it checked out. :o
KT, I asked about your ears because it could be an inner ear problem. Several years ago I went through a very bad bought of vertigo caused by meniere's disease. Its the most common cause of dizziness originating from the inner ear.

First of all, call for a full regular check up with the new guy. Then, try to note when these were happening, what you were doing, if the weather was hot/cold, if you were excercising, not sleeping, at work, etc....
Describe the feeling best you can. He may have a few tests done. Bloodwork, brainscan, whatever. But call now.

That is what I was told. Blood flow. I know. I need to get it checked. I'm workin' on it. Thanks, though ((hugs)) :o

How is your blood pressure in general?
Every time I'm in doctor for quarterly checkups (diabetic), blood pressure has always been fine.
I would go get it checked just to be safe.
I once had a heart attack sitting in the Doctors cubicle and it was diagnosed a day later. Of course I did not know it was a heart attack at the time. I thought is was heartburn as I have never experienced heartburn.

When I have an infection or whatever, I'd have vertigo issues, otherwise not? This comes on suddenly and randomly...maybe a few times per day. And its always only lasted a few days and then gone away again.

Almost that exact thing just happened to my father a few weeks ago.

Not really. It's never been much of an issue. Type II, only take meds, never had much trouble controlling it.

Type II also. Diet and exercise only.

Mine was from 29 years of Type 1 hardening the arteries.
I wasn't trying to scare you into going, just using an example of how things can be diagnosed even when the Doctor is not present. I was in the room alone of course.

Diabetes.
Ears.
Heart.
Rarely is there another cause.

KT, I used to have the same thing when I was in Jr. High and in High School. I've heard it ascribed to transient low blood pressure, and to hypoglycemia - either of which might have been possible. I don't have diabetes though, so I'd think it's something you'd want to follow up on with your doctor. It might be nothing to be concerned about, but then again, maybe it's a warning sign of some sort.

I had that problem, it was: hypertension, high blood pressure, and hypoglycemia.

I have spells where my blood pressure plummets and I get a similar feeling. It happened when I was in the hospital after breaking my arm as a kid, so they caught it. I've never passed out but they didn't believe me after seeing how low it was.

The only time I experienced something like that I was in 8th grade and I was just about over a could, but I had sinus pressure still built up. Suddenly my ears "popped" and I became very dizzy and almost fainted. Only time it ever happened.
About the diabetes thing, my grandpa is a 90 year old who used to be insulin dependant. Now, he eats an extremely good diet and walks 6 miles a day. He no longer needs medication of any kind. Compare that to my grandma who died in a nursing home in her mid 70's as an insulin dependant diabetic weighing 350 pounds or so.
I don't want to go telling you what to do or anything, but Gary Null, the nutritionist guy who's principles helped my grandpa get diabetes under control, and helped me lose 50 pounds can help you get really healthy and off meds of any kind if you are up for a really big time life style change. If you are interested, check out www.garynull.com. He does daily internet radio broadcasts you can listen to every week day, or even call up if you want.

Yeah...I"m not insulin dependant and probably have been close to being able to get off meds with diet and exercise. I lost (thanks mostly to discovering cycling) about 60-70 lbs last year.

Thanks for tip....I've already found a guy's diet strategy that I'm totally sold on. No drugs, no herbs (per se)...just straight up healthy eating (very little meat). His book is called "Eat To Live" and the author is Dr. Joel Fuhrman. www.drfuhrman.com

I was also diagnosed with Meniere's Syndrome, after a full workup from an ENT.
I was prescribed a diuretic BP med, which kinda worked some of the time. My symptoms
involved a transient dizzyness...not a feeling of impending loss of consciousness, but
just that spinning roon sensation. It seems to be tied in with my sinus and inner ear
problems, aggravated by allergies. It comes and goes, and I've learned to adjust. More
of an inconvenience than anything else.
I second the advice to have it checked out and make sure it's not something serious.
If it is, then get it under control now.

I checked out his site, and it would definitely appear that Gary Null and Dr Fuhrman are on the same page.

my friend had something like this and it was a heart murmor, I dont think you have to wait to get another episode to go get it check, theyll find what you have even if you're not dizzy at that moment you're at the doc's office. that must be very scary to go though this.

KT: Writing as a friend, kinda!
In my most considered opinion, go to a DOCTOR rather than a forum for medical advice. I enjoy your reparte on Foo and would like to enjoy it for a long time to come! That said, I'd like to give you one more piece of advice, reread what I just posted....again!http://ganjataz.com/smileys/Smile.gif
