We've finally got him to ride platforms instead of SPD pedals with no shoes... so it's a start. He's pretty stubborn. It's a tense household.

Heya Mike -- did you sponsor When Bikes Attack last weekend in St Pete? If so, I won your u-lock bag -- by getting hit by a car.
It was worth it, though.

Is anyone from Gainesville going to Talloween? If so, can I catch a ride with you? I'll help pay for gas and drive and all that jazz.

Also, I will be in your lovely city this afternoon and evening and tomorrow until I go to Tallahassee--if anyone wants to ride or hang out, let me know! Otherwise I'll be jamming big at a coffee house working on papers most likely (vacation during the school year is so not vacation...)

That's three I know of so far then.... Whatever Brad's talking about, I think Stubb's is up to something for early March, and April 6th will be an utterly epic race.

edit: Unless Brad is also talking about the one on April 6th, as I just remembered he works with Dan now.

I'm not planning anything; I just heard it from Sir Daniel.

Hey all-

this is pretty last minute to be getting on the forum.....

but anyways:
http://www.thekickstand.org/download/apocaleap.jpg

We're setting up an alleycat called the Apocaleap Year that will benefit The Kickstand [The Kickstand is Gville's new community bike shop (we're not technically open yet, just organizing, setting up, fun(d)raising, etc.].
Check out the website http://www.thekickstand.org/
There should be some pictures....

The whole bike-weekend is going to start Friday with critical mass and a show at the Wayward Council with some Minneapolis bands - Hangun Man, Webby Moore, and Jammy Dodgers. Then Saturday 12pm - 8pm there's acoustic music, bike-oriented workshops, a swap meet (bring yo ****! trade/buy/whatever), free bike repair, and other shenanigans all at the Kickstand. Food Not Bombs will have food for donation before the race, 3-4pm, and after the race, 7-9pm.

After registration at the Kickstand we're sending everyone there to hang out till the start.
The race is going to be around 20 miles, probably a little less. Each checkpoint presents an opportunity to win raffle tickets. There's a playground challenge, graffiti contest (it's legal... 15 min. max), track time trial, and some other crazy stuff. People that are racing to win will be able to skip the longer activities but obviously won't win any raffle tickets at those checkpoints. Top 3 male and female will win a bunch of raffle tickets.

There's also two costume contests: most apocalyptic and best helmet. Winners receive raffle tickets, of course.

We're going to raffle all the prizes off at 9pm before the show at the Kickstand (we're not sure who's going to play yet). We've gotten around a grand in prizes with more on the way....

woooooooooo

i'm so stoked for the apocaleap year. I was talking to some friends in jacksonville and there should be a good number of people. hopefully they won't get lost like they did at manifest destiny.

I love when people get lost in a grid system. It make me feel good.

(Alright, I'll be fair, parts of that race were outside of the grid.)

NW 6th park on Sunday evenings, I believe. You can ask Jim at Chain Reaction if you're interested. They play on a grass soccer field. I tried to get some games going in a parking garage a few times but people are hard to organize in this town and I couldn't get a good consistent turnout. Lame.

Well crap. I went to Gainesville High School. Graduated in 2007. I was even into bike racing back then. Had no idea there were people on the track every weekend. It's so far removed from the main campus, though.

Now I'm at UF.

What kind of things are people doing this semester in G'ville? Still at GHS on Sundays? I haven't had time to check out the Kickstand, though I plan on it.

On the off chance you check this (I know I do only once every other month or so) we got kicked out of GHS, so don't meet up there anymore. There's a bunch of kids riding around campus (as you've probably noticed) but I don't know who any of them are. It seems despite the increase in people on ss/fg bikes, the amount of organized crap has decreased. Why knows why....

It's getting to be a little cooler out, and a good bottle of wine in the bag on a nice night ride could be fun.
