View Full Version : Am I the only one from NS/PEI/NB/NFLD!?
I think they are all hiding. :)

Man all those abbreviations, no clue what you are saying.
In my University years, I worked summer job in the town of Bathurst, NB, at Noranda Mines. I did not have a car back then, and so cycling was the only means of transportation around town.
Since graduation, I vacationed in NS/PEI/NB/Gaspe many times before and had driven up the Cobat Trail, and enjoyed the lobster. I enjoyed being Moses in NB, walking on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean.
Never been to NFLD before - any Newfie jokes?
I can call myself a part time Maritimer.

Not originally from PEI but my Mom was so I've spent all of my summers on the Island. As a child I would go from the day after school let out until the day before it started again. As an adult I get up there for 2-3 weeks each summer or fall. Still love the Island.
Did anyone cycle "Cycle The Capes... The First Annual North Cape Coastal Ride" (http://www.ride-pei.com/) in September? I cycled the first day but because of family commitments couldn't make it for day 2.
Originally from Nfld, but now live in Halifax for the past 6 years.
Here from Ch'town, PEI. Originally form Moncton, moved here 7 years ago, lovin every minute of it! Just ordered a 2007 Trek 7.5FX disk, looking forward to doing the Confederation Trail, tip to tip next spring.
Cheers!

We do! I am a fair weather cyclist, but its funny, cause I see way more cyclist's in Halifax in the winter than in the summer!

What is that Chocolate town on the NB/USA border? I'd be interested in a run between there (during the chocolate Festival) and Truro in NS during a maximum tide  .

"Canada's Chocolate Town" is St. Stephen, New Brunswick. At the Calais, ME/St. Stephen, NB border. I live near Hershey, PA but as many times as I've driven though St. Stephen I haven't stopped to compare chocolate! :)
I'm from Moncton, but I haven't lived in NB for 17 years.

Just to keep it going, originally from B.C. (Victoria), now primarily SW Ontario but spend most of the summer in NB (St Martins), so consider myself (with permission) an honourary part-time Maritimer -- with any luck, will become full-time at some point!

Congratulations on a new bike that’s great. I think most of Canada is waiting for the meltdown.
You’re in Ch-Town right, I was wondering is MacQueens bike shop still there? I remember getting my first BMX from that shop.

Is the Confederation Trail 100% paved? Does it go across the whole province? Can one use a road bike on it or is it more of a ped trail?
The trail is gravel, mostly hard packed, well kept, but I haven't been on much of it yet. I have a hybrid with a 32 mm street tire. I have been told that my tire is wide enough but I should get a more agressive tread to avoid punctures.
The trail goes from tip to tip (280 km), with side trails into Charlottetown, and other coastal areas. Lots of web sites, check this one out:
http://www.islandtrails.ca/confed.htm
You can bike the trail as part of a tour (4 to 6 days), or do it yourself. There was a tip to tip race a few years ago, it was three days.

I'm in Halifax. Dartmouth actually, and there's family in Bedford. It's all called Halifax now baby.
I ordered my new bike Mar.17 with an $800 down payment from Bicycles Plus in Bedford. As of today it still hasn't found it's way to Giant's Vancouver warehouse and it's deliver date has been pushed back at least once
We had a snow storm Saturday so I guess I can afford to wait a while longer. Hopefully around Apr.20 I'll be riding the new girl.
We have a lot of bump on the streets here I hope the 23s will hold up.

Well to my second, third and fourth cousins, home for me is on PEI, but I've only visited a few times from California. Next time though, I am taking the bike which I just bought last month.
Sounds like fun.

Hey;
I'm in Mahone Bay on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. I grew up in Dartmouth and have great memories of of doing the Waverly Road,Bedford,Dartmouth loop as well as day trips to Lawrencetown around by Porter's Lake and back home on the old Number 7 Highway through Preston and Lake Echo.
I'm now riding a recumbent trike and there are loads of great routes here although the roads arn't any better than in "town". Any other bent riders out there?:)
I just moved to Halifax and am starting a commute from Mt. Uniacke to at least the Sackville Bus terminal (maybe as far as the city core)... I heard a rumour that the city is thinking of paving the old train tracks from Bedford to the city core... has anybody in the HRM heard of this?

Born near St. John's, NL and lived there until I was 16 when I moved with my family to British Columbia. Then I moved to Ontario almost 10 years ago and I'm still here! :)
Nova Scotians, I am looking for a road bike... 58cm, decent quality, carbon fork preferred with minimum 105 components. Be nice to find one 2004 or later, under $1k. Anything out there? I am in the Annapolis Valley, but can travel to view/test drive.

Though I have to admit to being an Upper Canadian, I lived in Halifax from '85-89 and again in 93, 94 and loved living there. The second time I lived there I used to ride two loops that I really enjoyed - out to Ketch Harbour and back and out to Peggy's Cove and back. I have asked for and been promised a posting to Halifax by my employer for next year.

And there's nothing that makes you yearn for New Brunswick like driving across Quebec...

Saint John, nb......... talk about a few bumps in the road! There are a few token bike lanes now, and I believe any new road construction has been mandated to include bicycle lanes.

Cool, I'm doing the tip to tip in July. Cant wait!!
I'm pumped too. I'm gonna warm up with the smaller part of the trail by the Ferry, but later in the summer me and some friends might attempt the whole thing.
I might as well chime in. I've lived in Halifax for several years now and just moved out to Jeddore on the Eastern Shore (where I grew up) and am commuting into Halifax (Great Ocean on Quinpool) just about every day until sometime in August when I'll be moving to Calgary.
