Just the facts, ma'am:
The event: Slow Spokes of Macomb (MI) "Peach of a Ride", an annual event.
Location: The bucolic farm and orchard country of northern Macomb and southern St. Clair counties.
Weather: upper 50s to mid 60's, mostly cloudy (partial clearing in afternoon), damp, wind NNE @ 10-15mph. Wind was mostly against us in the first half of the ride. Brrr!
Terrain: Flat to rolling; one fairly short but steep hill. Pleased to say I didn't use the small ring...just stood and mashed (and panted!).
Ride time, including rest stops: ~4.5 hours. (Edit: more like 5.)
Distance: 65 miles advertised (64.3 on my computer).
Average speed on my computer: 15.3mph. Rest stops excluded.
After ride pie: Hate to admit it but I was too tired! The club served pasta, salad, fruit and cookies after the ride in the school cafeteria (ride HQ).
I rode most of the course myself. At the halfway rest stop I met some people I knew and got into a pack of 8 strong riders. After about 16 miles at 18-22mph and a few hills, including that steep one, I faded back and finished the last leg at a leisurely 12-15mph. Yes, I was pooped.
This is the longest ride I've ever done. Perhaps a century next year?
Early bed time tonight, kids. Maybe a little Schubert on the stereo first.
