View Full Version : 56 x 56
Guys,
No huge deal for most of you . . . but on Thursday I was 56 and yesterday I rode 56 miles. Never stopped and averaged 16.2 mph. Was a nice ride solo in the rolling hillls around this part of Oklahoma. High 80's and not much wind.
I usually ride with 3-5 good riding buddies on regular weekend rides, but this week everyone had chores or projects that precluded riding together. It was fine riding solo and I really didn't mind. One of my buds knew my route and he and his 8-year old (BMX'er) met me along the highway with a Polar Bottle of fresh cold Gatorade at the 30 mile mark. Nice!
I love riding bikes. This one was a borrowed aluminum Schwinn: a 506? or some such.

When I saw the thread title. 56 x 56, I assumed that you were talking about a road bike with 56mm seat tube and 56mm head tube. Since that is not my size, I was convinced beyond all reason this was going to be a sucky thread. :p
But, I checked it out anyway...and it's a great ride story! Meeting up with a friend and his kid was a nice touch!!! :)
Nice average speed, too...:)

And I thought you had a really strange Chain ring/cassette gear ratio/setup!
But, congratulations anyway. Good stuff.
Oh crap, I'm 66. When you're sippin that first cold Coors I'll still have 10 miles to go.:( Hey, maybe I can do it in metric.

I'll be 57 next month. You give me something to shoot for. I went to high school in Meeker, one county south of you. My recollection of the countryside there is that some of those hills did a lot more than "roll" and they went on forever. I'll bet that Gatoraide was wonderful!
Great ride!! I'm a September bday guy as well.
Good way to celebrate one's birthday... yes?
Nice thread, and really that was a good performance for your your ride, i think anyway

No stops, rolling hills, and still a 16+mph average...not too shabby, old man!
I turned 56 last month, on Mr. Campagnolo's birthday, but I have not yet taken a celebratory 56-mile ride. Congrats!

My initial thoughts too. Then my initial reaction was why 56?.....why not go with something more practical like 28 x 28?....:p

Your title threw me also 56 x 56?
Anyway congrats on a great ride!!
Now if your friends had brought you a drink and PIE! then you'd really have the forum speaking out in praise.

Pie and Sweet or UnSweet Iced Tea?
Seems common in OK, AR and TN!
Congrat's on the neat ride!
Happy Birthday!

PS Ticwanos, you're right, some of these hills do seem to go on forever, but nothing like the guys out west see regularly.
