This Saturday is a SFVBC ride that goes up Little Tujunga to Soledad to Acton to Aliso Cyn and over Angeles Forest hwy to Big Tujunga. Some of us will start at the rec center on Foothill at 8:00. It's about 75 miles with about 8kfeet of climbing. Bitingduck, you could ride from home and return via Angeles Crest. Extreme heat will cancel, at least for me. Great, tough ride.

Big John,

Great ride, we usually start from the Santa Clarita side and finish up climbing Little T, and if we are feeling good a little climb up to Camp 9 at the end. Its great that they finally rebuilt the bridge in Aliso Canyon, that road was closed for couple of years. The forecast for this weekend looks good, the temps are suppose to be mid-80s max.

I'll be doing Mt. Pinos with the Santa Clarita Velo, we will be climbing Pinos & Mt. Abel up above Frazier Park. A few riders in our club our planning on doing the Everest challenge and want to get all the climbing in that they can. Looks like we will both having fun climbing this weekend.

I love Mt Abel, haven't been up there in too long.I also love mtb riding on Mt Pinos, the view from 8900ft is impressive.
When Aliso was closed, we just went up Angeles Forest, it only adds a few miles.

They say the weather will be Fall-like, that's what I have been waiting for these long hot weeks. Maybe I can even wear a jersey with sleeves ! It should be a fun ride.

Hey John, I told VB that I would come along for most of this ride, so I'll likely see you on Foothill at 8 AM. Hope you're doing well and sorry I missed the Baldy ride two weeks ago when it was so frickin hot. I was actually out there that day but had to pull over four times on little GMR due to heat exhaustion. We rode to the village last Saturday, so I redeemed myself. See you Saturday - unless there is a repeat of intense heat!
:D

gmr/baldy wasn't that bad on that saturday! once you got a couple miles up... it was quite nice!!!! now the ride back down... when we had to stop at the stop lights (i got cheated and had to go the fastest way to pick up my car and get back up the mountain!) now that was a bit warm when stopped!

By the way, perhaps I missed it, but where is the link to the pics you guys took on that Saturday? I want to see how melted you guys really were! ;-)
Seriously, I'm impressed as there was NO way I was going to make it up there in that heat.

Great picture and you look pretty peppy for having summited. Vertical Bob said you guys went all the way up to the hut. I've yet to get up there (only to the village)...I can hear my triple-granny-granny squeak as I write this.

Good turnout of about 20 riders including 7 women. It was cool at the start, even a little chilly, but the vests and arm warmers came off quickly as the climbing starts in a few miles. Little Tujunga was nice and quiet after the shooting range and paintball traffic, just a beautiful ride. I even put the vest back on for the first big descent, but after that it was warm the rest of the way. There were unexpected headwinds from Sand Canyon all the way to Acton with blowing sand and bent trees. After I got dropped (a normal thing) I swear that wind almost made me stop a couple times as I was grinding the granny gear. Some of the faster (smarter?) riders turned back, don't know where they went, but the rest of us slogged on to Acton. After the rest in Acton, it was on to the climb of Aliso Canyon. Here, the wind wasn't a problem until the junction with Angeles Forest hwy., even then it wasn't too bad. Poor Vertical Bob put on a new chain and cassette but no rings and his granny ring was skipping so bad he couldn't use it, so he did all the climbing in 42x25. A great ride with good weather and some great friends.

The NOAA weather had the wind at Acton at 12pm of 20 with gusts to 40mph from the NNE. Isnt that the exact direction the we were heading? A tough ride that will only make us stronger. For the record I was in a 42-26. Great ride with great friends. V.B.

Wow! No kidding? Well, now I don't feel so guilty about being *****y today on those long windy stretches. And did you notice we were being attacked by tumbleweeds? A first for me on a bike! ;)

A first for me on a bike! ;)Did you see that tumbleweed lunge at me on Aliso? He almost got me, but I out-manuevered him. You didn't see on Soledad, after they waited for me, a small, old dog started chasing us. Cathy was teasing him and everyone started slowing to see what was up. I was mid-pack and was worried he would get in among us and cause a problem, so I started yelling "Speed up, go faster". They all got a laugh out of this, I guess because they were finally going slow enough for me and I wanted them to speed up.

Um...John...psst...I was so far behind you, any tumbleweed attack or dog maneuvers were missed. :p Bummer too, because I would have laughed also (well, not at the tumbleweed attack if it had gotten you. I mean, death by tumbleweed is dreadful - or so I hear). ;)
