Southeast - Virginia Riders

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Not as much as I like, but mainly because of early darkness and a toddler. It did get hatefully cold this week though.

From Norfolk. I ride a Flevo Racer Recumbent to work some times. I've even rode in this cold weather. My water bottle filled up with ice.

Our team is based in Lexington, Virginia. We have about 20 members in town and others in North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. We train in the Shenandoah Valley and welcome local riders and visitors to join us. The weather is cold right now, but we ride whenever the weather permits. We race all over the east coast and we're easy to spot in our zebra print kits.

Another one from Richmond! I go to VCU and have been riding a GT Aggressor 1.0 that I've had for a while but most of the components are shot so I haven't ridden in the past few weeks; but my IRO frame set should be here tomorrow!

I'm sure this has been asked before, so apologies in advance.
I run the VA Beach Marathon on March 20 and plan to add three days of riding before heading back to NYC.
We don't want to stay at the coast because it's just flat. Looking at the map, the area North of Richmond/Charlottsville looks nice. We plan to ride about 80 miles a day and would love to hear anyone's suggestions for routes.
Thanks!!

Harrisonburg, VA Kinda, I live about 2 miles outside the city limits up and down several annoying hills that I have yet to be able to bike up (doesn't help that the gears weren't set correctly to start with, got the back ones right but not the front)
I bike about 3 miles one way to work 1-3 times a week on a Schwin Avenue Ladies that was bought at (don't hurt me please) Wal*Mart.

Yup, did the half last year from Richmond. Full this year from Chickahominy River Park. Looks like good weather. Have a great ride.

It's going to be wonderful weather. I'm doing the half from Richmond, as I live a mile from the Richmond start--how convenient is that??

LOL, one of the reasons we went of out Richmond last year was beer at the end! No beer at the end at Chichahominy. County park does not permit it. Have a great ride. Look for a yellow University of Colorado jersey on a Giant TCR going in the oposite direction.

We have a pretty active bike club - http://brbcva.org/ They do organized rides (on and off road) several times a week. There are plenty of good routes around here.
We are lucky enough to have quite a few good bike shops here as well:
http://www.cardinalbicycle.com - carries Specialized, Giant, Raleigh - some high end stuff, but mostly entry level and kids stuff. Good selection of helmets/clothes/etc.
http://www.eastcoasters.com - carries Trek, Gary Fisher, Guru, Serotta and I think a couple more. Good mix of low and high end stuff. They do great bike fittings, and support a lot of local racers
http://www.justtherightgear.com - carries Cannondale, Santa Cruz, Kona, Surly, Niner, and some other nice brands. They are a couple miles from the most popular mountain biking area in this area
http://www.starlightbikes.com - mainly carries track/fixed gear stuff, but also carries some higher end road stuff. They are very involved in the racing scene around here as well.
http://www.3peaksshop.com - mainly a tri store, but carries a good range of road bikes. I know they carry Blue and Fuji. Not sure what other brands
Anyone in the Richmond area that might suggest one of the shops or perhaps an individual for cold setting? Particularly a fork. Someone good with Sturmey Archer hubs would be great as well or who carries 650a tires. Just trying to get this old 3 speed up to snuff and would like to keep my business local if possible. TIA.
