My friend is about to start her first winter of bike commuting in Stockholm, Sweden! *applause for her*

I wanted to pass on any great advice from these boards to her but I figured those of you who commute in snow every year would be an even better resource than myself (not so much snow in LA).

So if you were to pass on a nugget of wisdom or gear tip or even a strategy for staying with it through the snowy days, what would it be?

Should she put new knobby tires on her cruiser? What's the ideal snow commuter?

Thanks to all, on her behalf, for any advice! And lets all wish her good luck! (the worst day snow commuting still beats cramming into the bus, I'd think)...

There was only one time in the last two years that enough snow fell that I had to walk most of the way home... Pushing the bike through knee-deep snow on the sidewalk was STILL faster than driving, some of my co-workers almost ran out of gas stuck in endless traffic jams. Probably drivers in Sweden have a better grasp on the snow-tire thing.

The ugly days are the ones where it's sunny but real cold. Cars go at summer speeds, the bike feels like it can barely move.
