Ok, so, I rode both Saturday and Sunday. But before that, I hadn't ridden for a few weeks.

My bike is *filthy*; it still has grime from both TdSS rides.

Should I take the night off and give it a "god's own cleaning", or should I take it for another spin?

hmmmmm my knee jerk reaction is to day RIDE... however... you haven't been riding and you've ridden the last two days... so i say take the night off and clean it and then ride tomorrow!

Could it be that my gearing problems are related to the fact that my bike is filthy?! Poor girl, she hasn't had a good cleaning for a while now.

If it meant cleaning or riding.......you know the correct answer to that!...:D

Wipe off the chain, apply some lube, go riding. Take advantage of the daylight while we have it!!!

It is possible if you are having some shifting issues.....it really, really makes a difference....you can hear it and feel it when its clean...
I do a little wipe off after a ride, but every couple of weeks...I get out the chain cleaner...clean and lube...

I'm thinking that a good cleaning is in order. I hate riding her when she's all dirty.

Actually, the rain will actually gunk up a dirty drivetrain that's been freshly lubed.

Thats exactly what I was thinking....well maybe one or 2 days...
I think Cali would argue that..she said it gets really cold where she is...

Do both. Give the bike a quick wipe, clean the chain and re-lube.

Enjoy the ride :)

interesting.....I have never washed my bikes. Maybe that's why my chain is black:eek: Oh well, it still does the job I need it to.

Drink beer while you clean.
That way you are accomplishing two things in preparation for tomorrow; having a clean, smooth shifting bike and carbo loading!

How often should I clean the chain. I just got my bike in the Summer. Is there a special lube to use for the chain? Thanks.

Why is there even a question?

I clean mine about once a month and use Tri Flow oil.

I just can't win with you. If I'm not riding, I should be. If I'm riding, I should be riding more. If my bike's dirty, I should clean it.

I'm telling mom.

Isn't the gutter where all the dirt collects? If you spend less time in the gutter, your bike will stay cleaner. :p

(Drifting away from the dirty minds...)

Nor is my bike! I did everything. I pulled the cranks, pulled the chainrings off the cranks, cleaned the cassette, the whole nine.

She sure shimmers like new, she does.

But wow, does she have wear marks. I've got paint chips and scratches and dings and all kinds of stuff that I never noticed until I took her apart.

I was just as bad when I was cycling. Trust me...there are too many innuendos with riding, my mind has taken up permanent residence in the gutter. :p
