General Cycling Discussion - New Hero

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I just bought the July issue of Bicycling. It is worth it for the article on Freddie Hoffman. What do you guys think? Is Freddie an awesome human being?! My new hero is Freddie Hoffman. I highly recommend everyone read the article/interview. My non-cycling wife thought it was beautiful! Terry.

Definetley one of a kind guy there. His riding actually comes from the heart I think. There is a man who is really enjoying himself and not thinking of himself all the time.

I read the article and took note that this guy was getting mileage that would make a long haul trucker sigh with equipment that may be regarded as less than acceptable. The stained sweatpants and K-Mart equipped machine helped me re-focus on the more important aspects of the sport: Don't talk or think about your ride so much...just ride. My wife mentioned one night as we were winding down for the day "I'm glad you got your ride in today, it always puts you in a better mood."

I finally read the article about Freddy (BICYCLE, June 2001), and I was truly inspired. It was the best article I've ever read in a bicycling magazine.
THE DUDE did 15 miles a day when he was 5 years old...ON HIS TRICYCLE!! He did nineteen century rides before he turned 11. WOW!! On top of that he has raised over 500 thousand dollars for Lukemia research.
I would love to see a movie or read a book about this guy. I was sad that the article couldn't be longer than it was. I had to read it twice, and I'm sure I'll read it many more times. Even if you don't believe in reading magazines about bicycles, you should buy this magazine just for the article. You will be absolutely amazed!
