Foo - Those with non roof racks....

I just recently got the Thule T2 hitch rack. Greatest thing God ever invented since sliced bread. :)

My question:

Has anyone hit you with your bikes on? My nephew who owns an LBS would have a fit if he found out I had it because he just hates it when people use expensive bikes as "bumpers".

Yesterday this woman was either being a real witch or she couldn't drive a stick because at every light, her car was lunging at mine, back and forth like she was riding/popping the clutch. I watched in the mirror and my heart skipped a beat every time. I switched lanes, she switched with me. I swear I grew some gray hairs.

One of the ladies I ride with got her beloved litespeed smashed when it was on her trunk rack. Some guy plowed her car :(

On the bright side, she got a brand new Se7en out of the insurance payoff :)

I have been rearended a couple of times, but never with the bikes on the back. Now I use a bed mount rack and put them in the back of the truck.:D You gotta do what ya gotta do and make sure your insurance is paid up.

Oh, I like that bike rack! Could you put some reflectors on it, or perhaps use some reflective straps or brightly colored ribbon on the wheels, something to say, "Hey, look at me!"?

I agree it's a risk, but it's so much better than getting epicondylitis or a rotator cuff injury from repeatedly hoisting the bikes up top.

I put my bikes on the roof and drive them into low hanging ceilings and signs. Saves me the trouble of being rear-ended.

I preferred a rack of the style you mentioned, but wanted to be able to carry at least 3 bikes (preferably 4).

As I said..never had a rear end, but would assume/hope insurance would deal with that issue.

You can carry up to four bikes with the extension. I like this rack because the frames are not touched, the car body is not touched, and you don't have to remove the front wheel (dang lock up on disks! :eek: )

Looking back, I should have the two bike version and just not bothered with extension until/if I needed. As I've only carried more than 2 bikes like twice in a year, I could probably have never needed it.

I got out my socket set and removed the back seat and rear door panels from my car. I can now fit 3 bikes in the back, 3 people up front, and a ton of crap in the trunk. Works a lot better for my wallet than anything from Thool.

I once had a tent stolen from my back yard. Strange thing was they left the sleeping bag that was in the tent.

I use the Onguard Beast. I was GONNA use cable because of the length but the chain is good enough. Just gotta remember to take it off when I am driving so no damage occurs.

Does the endcap come off to allow you to expand the rack to accomodate two extra trays? I have a Hollywood Teamrider and mine does. A while back, Delta used to sell a bumper that would fit into the extension hole for their Bikehaul rack.

These also fit a variety of other racks including the Hollywood Teamrider. It may also fit the Thule T2. I'm not sure if it's made any longer though but perhaps you can get someone to fabricate you something similar. I've been meaning to build a wider version of that bumper for my rack too.

Yes. The endcap comes off and you can attach an extender with room for two more bikes.

- interesting... have the two-bike Thule 2" hitch rack... my experience has been that with the rack there is less tailgaiting...

- although this could be attributed to the fact that most tailgaiters would end up with the receiver through their windshield at face level...

p.s. btw, i'm using the hitch less and less as time goes by... i discovered that a 30-minute urban ride on the bike gets me to my favorite rides, saving gas...

WOW Siu, nice rack!!! (Bet you love hearing that)

A couple of my friends use that rack, except they bought it before Thule bought it from Sportworks. It is one of the best designs I have ever seen. It is especially nice for those using Lefty's.

Luckily for me though, I was able to get by a little cheaper. :)
