Geesh this company is pissing me the hell off.

Everything has been fine up until about 2 weeks ago. All of a sudden one morning, they don't pick up my garbage like they do with everybody else's and put a huge bright orange sticker on my garbage that basically says "WE AIN'T TAKING YOUR GARBAGE BECAUSE YOU ARE BEHIND ON YOUR BILL".

B.S. I'm thinking....I just got a bill and paid it like a week ago. I check inside and noticed I had received a new bill but just the night before. This new bill's due date isn't for at least another two weeks yet. There is no way I'm behind.

Holiday weekend now....I pay the bill online over weekend and next week proceed to put my garbage out again, thinking all should be good now.

They still don't take it. They didn't leave a note, but they didn't take it either. Now I'm pissed...so I take account info and phone number in to work with me (as they are closed by time I get home usually). I call and talk to a nice lady phone operator who looks up my account and it shows I'd never been behind and she can't fathom why they would have not taken my garbage. She asks if I want somebody sent out that day to pick up my garbage, but I say "no...I'm not home and its now out, and I can't get home to put it out". Then she says she'll put a notation on the account for the garbage men to apparently have to check something when they do my garbage and/or notate on their records WHY they didn't take my garbage if they did not (not sure if it was both or not).

So I go to put garbage out last night...had left can up by my garage and it was empty. Even though I told her not to send somebody, they must have anyway, because "somebody" took the garbage from my can (that was way up by my garage). Anyway...I take the garbage that I had put in garage into the can and put it out last night.

Today I get home with another bright green sticker telling me that my can is too big for regulation. Must be a 32 gallon can max. It's a 50 gallon can, but it just has a few closed/tied bags in it...not freeform 50 gallons of garbage. Well.....this is the same can they'd been taking garbage in FINE for 3 months since I moved in here. Apparently they were pissed about getting their hand slapped and having to call on the account, so plan to play everything by the letter. Trying to get even perhaps?

Well...I'm done. I'm calling in again tomorrow and telling them to shove their business up their wahzoo!! I'll switch to whatever that other company in area is. BFI I think.

</rant>

Sorry for the book....thanks for letting me vent.

Or you could do like the rest of the rednecks and leave it in the back of your truck with the tailgate down and dump it along A1A:roflmao: Fortunately where I live we have a couple of smaller independant companies that still take pride in personal service. We had WM at one time, and I got PO'ed enough at them I would stock pile my trash and take it to the dump myself to avoid having to use them. Good luck and see who else want's to play in the garbage.

I had a similar incident a few weeks ago. All of the garbage was picked up but the green waste. I looked up and down the street and apparently mine was the only one not picked up. No note, no sticker, nothing. So I called the garbage people and tell them. They say they'll get it the next day. Nope. Meanwhile, my yard is growing like a South American rain forest. But I can't mow it because there's no where for me to put the clippings. So what happens? I get a notice from the homeowners association saying mow it or get fined. Two weeks later, the can gets picked up finally. Apparently some jack ass parked near the can preventing the truck from getting to it.

Get the new company before you drop your old account. Sometimes they are territorial.

We used to put it in the back and drive it to the dump once a week or so. Car loads were only $1. Pickup trucks were weighed before and after.

It's all a racket unfortunately.

What company is this? I tell ya, it's a huge monopoly and racket. They get contracts with the city for years on end and rack up your bills and give you crappy service. At least they pay well, the guys driving the trucks here gets $49/hr. :)

Makes me appreciate the folks who pick up my trash....last week they helped me dump 60m of old, rusty chainlink fence in the back of their truck. Good guys.

WM has an exclusive contract here in the borough. It is illegal for a homeowner to contract with another company, but their service is fairly good.

WM is like the Microsoft of solid waste. They're EVERYWHERE and the and if you want to use something else, you're pretty much on your own. :D

- yep, we have Wasted Mgmnt here in Pineapple Park... fortunately the service is via the city, so pickup is smooth (they take nearly anything and everything w/no restrictions on can size - although we don't use cans)...

- more disturbing is that it seems that no matter how hard we try, our household generates too much trash! we recycle glass, metal, plastics and newspaper, but there's still too much trash!

- we're going to start recycling even more stuff (a nearby park [Seminole] has mixed-paper recycling, so we'll be able to get rid of magazines and other junk mail items - we get 20 lbs of junk mail a week!)

:-(

EDIT: working smarter not harder, i just reduced the amount of junk mail we receive at our household by OPTING OUT of credit offers and other mailings by calling 1-888-567-8688... this places a 5-year moratorium on information lending of your info by equifax, experian, and transunion... i'm going to also get off mailings by mailing the direct marketing association... it will be nice to not have a full mailbox of crap and catalogs!

Just get a trailer and make sure to tie up all your trash real tight with plastic grocery bags. $18 every four months is so much cheaper than paying to have it picked up each week.

Remember half that $49 goes to "union dues."

If they work for a city though they can usually retire after 20 years with a good enough pension to live off of.

I remember walking/staggering home from a bar around 5 AM. A truck was backing up to be filled and there was a guy on the sidewalk directing him. He gives the 'stop' sign and the driver stopped short. A WAVE of greenish, brownish, chunky liquid flew out and covered the guy on the sidewalk. He just flicked his wrists to get a grip and tossed the bags in the back. Meanwhile I dry heaved all the way home. So - even without union dues it's not enough for me!

I've had worse jobs. I'd do it for 49 bucks an hour. And the union? They can... clean my pipes.

Called customer service again today. They are sending somebody out today to grab that garbage. They asked me to go home and put it out by road...I said "if you want to retain my business you will have whoever send walk the 10 extra steps and grab it up by garage".

Then I asked what they plan to do to ensure this doesn't happen again. She said she would notify the route supervisor for that area. I told her to feel free to give the route supervisor my phone number if he needs more info about the problem.

This is their LAST chance. If the bonk one more time, I'm switching to the other company.

Well, at least you have a choice. That's better that most places...

Had more than an earful from friends working in grocery stores when they had that big "strike" a couple years ago. It was all really just a ploy by the unions to squeeze more money out of both the stores and the employees... parasites I tell ya!

Waste Management is the world's largest garbage company.

I just read in the morning paper that our Waste Management rates are going up 72%.

They can be pretty arrogant sometimes. I put a small microwave oven in the trash container a while back. They took it out and left it beside the container. I took the microwave apart and put all the parts in the can and they took it.

Ok....they did it again!! :(

They didn't pick up today with note that can was too big. They just used up their last chance....I'm switching to the (only) other garbage pickup service in the area (BFI).

Just did some superpages sniffing...and it seems there are some local garbage pickup companies...not sure if they do simple household pickup or commerical stuff or if they service my area, but I'm gonna give 'em all a call tomorrow and see what's up.

Might be worth a shot if I can get a smaller service contract...one thing I hate about WM (and BFI) is they service twice a week with up to 6 cans allowed. I'm only one person...I might have two bags (one can) per week at most. I hate paying for 12x the service I really need. I'd haul it myself if it was convenient.

Well....as I feared, the local ones didn't pan out. They were all commercial type stuff for construction companies and heavy hauling.

I ended up switching to my only other recourse, Waste Services (formerly BFI).
