Dr. wonders of I might not have a stress fracture on the top of my foot. Anybody have such a thing before? He also says that he thinks that I may have epididymitis (testicular infection) that he believes may come from my training (trauma to the parts). I find that hard to believe and suggests that I just provide more support. He does't quite get that bike shorts are generally designed not for underwear. ANy thoughts?

Had a stress fracture 35 years ago when in top shape and doing long distances regularly. Took a long time to heal and then only with enforced rest. Rather have the most panful stress fracture though, than a bit of your "epididymitis"!!!!!!!!!

Freshmen year of high school I had 2 stress fractures in the same ankle. Continued to run track that year, and as a result haven't been the same since. Took a good 2 years to feel confident running longer then 5 miles without rest, and I still don't feel confident enough to sprint(how I injured it). They can be a pain to get rid of, but trust me its best to take it easy and not try to overwork it. Hope your back up to speed soon, and I agree, I don't want anything wrong with my testicular reason. Just not a pretty thought.

Back in 1991 I decided to go out for a run one afternoon. I thought I was going to do a six mile loop but I didn't plan the route too well and about 9 miles into it I realized that I was screwed...so I kept running. Ended up doing 19 miles and I hadn't been running for about two years. Stress fracture. Me = Dumbass

I don't know if I had a stress fracture but I did have a problem once from lacing my running shoes too tight. It was very tender for about a month but eventually went away. Could just be a bone bruise. I think the only way to really tell on a stress fracture is a bone scan. Good luck.

Can't say much about the stress fracture to your foot other than I use running insoles, which soften the impact of running.

As far as the issue with your rollers...a new seat may help with bloodflow to that area. I friend of mine went through 3 saddles before finding one that didn't make his "unit" go numb.

Bill, sorry to hear that. My coach also thinks that my foot problems may be stress fractures. What symptoms do you have? I presume some pain, but is it constant? intermittent?

I had pain on the top of my foot, where indeed you tie your shoes. The pain has gone away, but then it reappeared in the region of my third toe. The pain felt like it was on the bottom, but as I pushed on it, the pain seemed to be on the top moving between the toes. I had an x-ray, but no bone scan. I had a testicular ultrasound, too. Am waiting for results of both. I don't buy the theory that my ball problem is a consequence of my training. I think it's more of a bacterial issue. Maybe the training aggravates the problem. I do know that it hurts more when I wear bike shorts and sometimes when I'm riding, esp. when I'm in the aero position. Enough old man whining about my health problems. I am all in favor of staying 35 years of age.
