Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - Clydesdale Subforum
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
There is so much useful information in the Clydesdale sticky (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=150310) and is a decent draw of new users who are on the bigger side and have gotten into biking to be healthier and drop some weight. Almost every page has a new user who checks in as a Clydes and doesn't want to be (or be on the lower scale of it) I know that thread is bookmarked for me and is the first I constantly check on. A lot of the same questions come up in that thread that concern guys whose weight abuse many a bike and wheelset that gets easily lost after 34 pages. I think a lot of people would benefit on being able to see those posts separated out as different threads.
Not sure if the best solution is to have a subforum in road cycling, nutrition, maintenance, or a separate Clydesdale section all together since does cut across many sections. A quick search (http://www.bikeforums.net/search.php?searchid=2794925&pp=25) of the forums for Clydesdale shows a surprising cross section of postings.

Not to mention on the Clyde questions that get lost in the standard road forum. I agree! We need a subforum.

A sub forum to road? Or a stand alone forum open to all? (Mtn / Road / Recreation etc)
I'd be for a forum open to all. The issues and stresses that occur when you have someone who's 260 (360, 400+) on a bike is much different than the average 140 pound person. Parts suffer and maintenance is more important. There are people on fixies, mtbs, roadies, 'bents (who ride for commuting, racing, recreation, in the winter) all interested in a bike that will hold them up in case they hit a pothole, what to do to keep it running, and how to eat to sustain them and lose weight. I learned the hard way this last weekend what sustains someone half my weight just doesn't work for me on a longer (50+ mile) ride.
Heck, my first bike years ago was a roadbike and after tacoing both tires on a pothole I swore off roadbikes until I read about riders bigger than I was riding them here. Maintenance issues like tensioning the wheels become more important (something I never even knew could be adjusted before reading this!). I've shredded 3 pairs of pedals this season and I met another Clydes on the NYC Century this last weekend whose metal pedal snapped during the ride (luckily he was able to buy a new set at a nearby bike shop!). We put our bikes through a lot.
These issues do seem to cut across many of the topics. But - anyway to have a variety of Clydes topics beyond one sticky thread would be greatly appreciated.

I also think an independent forum, rather than a sub forum of road might be the way to go.
I changed your first pass a bit to make it a little less weight-loss specific. While most of us want to lose weight, there are plenty of Clydes that are comfortable with 200+, especially the taller ones. For me, personally, I want to weigh between 200 and 210, so that means my ideal weight would make me a Clydesdale.

I agree..... with the idea, and the edit to the sub title change. I am at 250 down from 296 and most likely will end up in the 205-215 range.
I know I am new here, but I would really like to see this happen because of the separate issues we face compared to the smaller guys.
