Foo - NYT suggests ending all carry ons, on aircraft.

We all want to not be hijacked. Of course, I do think Americans are sligtly obsessed with fear mongering. "Paranoia will destroya ya." If safety eventually required and was proven to need such measures, guess we'd have to live with it.
But today's editorial suggested only way to gurantee security is to go on without any hand luggage. Next they will require we go on naked. Hope they at least give us a toga.
Do you think such measures are necessary. Would it effect your flying. It would mine. Some trips would be useless. Labtops are vital for much of our travel.
If airlines insured the contents in their holds, maybe it would not be so severe. But,they do not.They loose it you are screwed. I know, they almost once lost my $200o bike. I'd just been screwed. I am sure they will treat laptops no differently. What do you think.
Many companies such as the NYT's send it's employees on planes with company laptops. Wonder if the airline lost a company laptop, if they'd hold the employee responsible?

I mean come on, we can send a man to the moon but we can't make our airlines any safer?? This is a serious problem. I only fly for fun (meaning to go somewhere fun). I think there are much better ways to make the airlines safer without invading the complete privacy of one.

Answer: comapny planes and charter flights.

I'm sick of feelgood rules and legislation....a terrorist could just as easily put explosives up his rectum, detonator included, and pull it out in a lavatory. I guess we should ban lavatories and make everyone have enemas as well....

Really, this is as good a reason as any to promote high-speed trains. Still not as fast as a plane, but so far the regulations covering them have less suck to them.

Absolutely stupidity. If anything take some pages from the El-Al security handbook, they seem to have this down pretty well despite being the largest target in the aviation field.

How about if instead everyone above the age of 5 is issued a Louisvill Slugger before boarding. No more terrorist problems that way, end of story.

Interesting idea, but take a close look at all those other people in the terminal, and imagine how much worse it would be to sit next to someone who's mucho repulsive.

On the other hand, the airlines could come up with an entirely new pricing structure - charging more for seats near attractive people. The composition of the First class section could be changed dramatically...

The day they ban carryons is the day I stop bringing any type of valuables on board (including laptop, cellphone, etc.). And if that happens, I might as well stop flying altogether.

For starters, they ban carry ons. They should at least insure expensive items they make us put into the hold. W/o a laptop, the purpose of many of my trips would be impossible.
