A Hoosier is a resident of Indiana. Origin of the word is Anglo-Saxon and French and means woodsman or hillbilly

Tom... When my brother first started working at the Journal & Courier 17 years ago he had to verify that he was supposed to use the word Hoosier to refer to state residents in articles! He thought it was an insult....

... I guess in West Lafayette it could be.... :) ;)
