Cyclocross - rims?

i'm about to build up my first cyclocross-specific wheelset and i was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for good solid rims (to be raced on but also ridden offroad and generally abused). conversely, if anybody could suggest rims or rim qualities to be avoided it'd be much appreciated. thanks in advance.

Good ol' Mavic Open Pro 32h are tried and true, and should work just fine for most riders.
Better yet are Mavic CXP33's. They cost more, but the deeper profile provides a stronger rim, and helps shed mud.

These recommendations are assuming that you plan on using clinchers.

Just to throw something different out there.... check into some Velocity rims.

+1. also Salsa Delgado Cross, (clincher), MAVIC CXP33's and 22's (heavy, cheap, strong).

The Delgado Cross's are cheap, and BOMBPROOF. My friend/coworker built some up 36h 3x with Revolution spokes and was dropping off a 4.5' conrete stage to flat concrete and never had to true them. We have since built probably 6 sets of wheels with these rims and they always build up nicely and withstand nearly anything. We actually use these now instead of Velocities because the Delgado's build up much more consitently and seem to be of a much more consistent quality.

I love my Salsa Delgado Cross rims. XT hubs w/ DT double butted spokes. They see offroad, trails and road use. Never been out of true after 1000+ miles despite large gouges in the rims from rocks.

thanks for all the suggestions. i currently have a flip flop wheelset built up with deep vs and love it, even if it is a bit heavy. i'll look into some of velocity's lower profile wheels as well as the mavics and salsas. lots of homework to do :)
