Southern California - Anyone riding MS 150 Santa Barbara

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just curious if any of you are doing this. I'm opting for the 200 mile option (100/day). I doubt anyone on my team will join me in that effort (they are kinder, gentler riders), so I'm wondering if I'll be solo on that route or if I'll have company.
:D

I am going to be in Solvang that weekend for the Fall Double. If I volunteer on Saturday and ride on Sunday then I will not be able to join you. but if I ride on Saturday, I might get up and head down to Santa Barbara to join in... (or I might head for a massage)

I would say that I'd join you in getting a massage but I'd then be in hot water with my very generous sponsors. I mean, really, how could I explain that? ;)

simple.... I talk to Jim (the event director) and get you marked as complete for day two.... your sponsors are happy, and so are you.... and the MS Society has their money so they are happy as well.

This is a win-Win-WIN situation!

Oh, so you know Jim, huh? Will you sweet talk him for me so that I can have access into the VIP Tent on Saturday night? I'm about $700 shy of earning my way in! (although I am very close to reaching my $1,500 goal) And, no, I beter not skip those miles because my quads will know I didn't do it!

tell him to use my donation totals towards you getting into the VIP tent.

I'm definitely impressed! Dude, exactly what do you promise your sponsors - ;-)

Seriously, I rode the bay-to-bay last year and believe very strongly in raising funds for that cause (and loved the ride, they were so organized). Great fundraising on your part!

I work for a company that has a great community relations program. Also, since I work for a mortgage company, there are many people that have GIGANTIC disposable incomes (100k / month).

I have done this for four years now, and each year people remember my thank you cards from the previous year and that pushes them to donate larger amounts each year. check out the eClub (http://www.ms150biketour.net/modules/newbb/) for additional fundraising ideas in the forums. I'll bet you cannot guess what my login is over there! :D

Hmmm...Kingofthemountain1? Moneyman? Top5fundrazer? ;)

Yes, Extort, I read a couple of your posts regarding fundraising tips on eClub. Great advice, except my company doesn't even match donations, so pushing for much more is moot. I am hoping they'll donate pancakes and syrup, but that is still a big maybe.

Either way, if you do happen to be riding anywhere near the SB tour on 10/21 or 10/22 (not volunteering, riding the 200 or getting massaged), come join me. My pace will be a mere leg stretch for you. :p
