A new federal law was enacted today granting cyclists conditional use of the nation's roadways.

"As long as they stay out of the actual lane where traffic is, I see no reason they [cyclists] should not be permitted to share the road, within reason," said Henry Ford VIII, chairman and CEO of Progressive Motor Company. "We believe most cyclists are rational people and will yield right of way to more important, faster moving vehicles. It is in this spirit of cooperation we have supported this new bill, which is now law."

The new law will give cycists many new opportunities hitherto not
enjoyed, including increased usage of pedestrian walkways, streets posting 25 mph or less, and unlimited use of crosswalks (when dismounted from their bikes.)

"I applaud this new initiative," enjoined Lee Toyoda Iacocca. "Bikes are obviously the wave of the future. Walking, as we know it, will be a thing of the past."

Well did you know that in SC, it is against the law to transport, or work on your bike on Sunday? It is also illegal to have a wallet in your back jeans pocket. Needless to say the laws go unheaded, and I have yet to see a cop enforce them.

Very interesting Fubar. Did you know thtat in Va. upon release from jail you are supposed to get a horse, 5 gold pieces and a pistol. Last thing I heard it was still on the books, but obviously not followed. There is a book you can get about weird laws still on the books in the US.

Pete, Interesting law, where can i find more info about this law, is there a website / law site i can look into? I spent 5min on the largest Utah AM talk radio show today (KSL 1160) talking about the new law in NY, no hand-held cell phones while driving. I was able to argue the point of cell phone drivers having just as many accidents as drunk drivers. I made sure everyone knew i have had my fair share of run ins on my bike with motorists in cars, it was a great 5 min. I wanted to plug BFC, but didnt dare :)

Well, Lee Lacocca, was the chaiman of Dodge (i think?) not to long ago, before then, he was the head designer at Ford, deisned such cars as the original mustang ('64 1/2?), and the first minivan (for dodge?). Now he is the CEO / Chairman of eBike.com and the eBike bicycles, it wouldnt supprize me to see him sponser such a bill, however i doubt his middle name is toyota :)

Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction (or even Pete's satire). A Montana legislator recently sponsored a bill [HR-212] which would have required cyclists to ride on the wrong side of the road outside of city limits. Fortunately, strong pressure from Missoula-based cycling groups forced the bill to be tabled in committee. I don't know the current status, but Texas (yes, Lance Armstrong's home state) cyclists are still fighting proposed restrictions against group riding and against cycling on farm roads.
