View Full Version : a little embarrassment on the road

I was riding my bike, making a left turn. Another cyclist came toward me, heading straight through the intersection. I stopped before I was in his path so it didn't come close to a collision at all. However, it is true that I didn't notice him when I started the turn. He shouted at me and I was embarrassed. With all the ranting I do about transportation, I should do a better job when I am actually on the road.

Was he riding close to the curb or center lane biased? ;)

You yielded the right of way to him, so he had nothing to shout about.

That pretty much explains why some motorists just don't see us. We're just a very small blip on the radar screen. A cyclist should be more aware of other cyclists but in this case that just didn't happen either.

He was close to the edge of the road. Technically, there is a bike lane there but it's only about two feet wide. He would have been more visible if he was closer to the center. Now that I think about it, he was passing a car so I it might be that the car was blocking my view of him. I guess that's another reason to avoid passing on the right.
