We already have a thread about what you are doing, so I think we need a thread about what you should be doing instead of wasting time here on bike forums. I am between classes and should be studying for a quiz coming up in my next class.

How about you?

I should be moving on to my next ticket to work on, but after spending 4 hours on one thing today, I deserve a short break. Don't you just hate it when you SWEAR you already checked one possible problem with something (this happens to be code, so programmers I'm sure can relate) and you could SWEAR it wasn't the problem... and then it was? UHHHHHG.

So much for a good Programmer's Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Programmer's_day) for me.

Know exactly what you mean - which is kind of sad in a way. I have a friend who's a cop, and his stories about what happened at work are 4,000 times more interesting than mine.

Eh, your heart doesn't even need to beat when your blood is 50% caffeine and looks kinda yellow-green-brownish colored. Go ***** yourself out so you can buy more. :p It's a small price to pay.

Bill her for the tires.

yeah. seems right to me.

Siu Blue Wind
09-14-06, 02:36 PM
But but..........What am I supposed to do? Tell her she's too heavy and if you wanna ride my bike you gotta get me some new tires? :o

That was my fault. I was actually more concerned about the wheels, I never thought about the TIRES.

I asked her if she wanted to go bike shopping some time this week. She said she'd rather ride my bike for a long time first to see if she will be sure if she wants to spend $200 on a bike. :(

Oh boy. What to do, what to do. Maybe my bike will get two flats and I could blame it on someone else and not afford new tires? (Where's my knife?)

Michigander

You could and perhaps should cut your losses and tell her to start walking 4 miles a day. Hell, with all the mountains she could even do less than that and get good exersize. Maybe I'm a jerk, but I see no good reason to long term loan a nice bike to anyone, especially not someone who has no appreciation for what a nice bike is.

Siu Blue Wind
09-14-06, 03:07 PM
I had suggested her walking with me perhaps. She has a fallen arch in her right foot or something. That is why she'd rahther ride. I think the flat tires might fit the bill until I think of something else.

Michigander
09-14-06, 03:13 PM
How about a police auction bike? Maybe you could buy her a beater for 50 bucks and be done with it. I got a Giant Iguana for 39 dollars at a police auction once.

Siu Blue Wind
09-14-06, 03:31 PM
That's a very good idea, Michigander. Except for one thing. She could buy her own bike, thankyouverymuch. She makes way more money than I do. Two incomes herself plus her husband works construction and electrical.

Michigander
09-14-06, 03:34 PM
I see your point, but 50 bucks might be better than letting her bust up the squishy or whatever she's using. What might be even better is to explain why she needs to buy herself a bike and stop using yours.

One last idea is those silly spinning programs like they have at the YMCA and health clubs. I can't see why anybody would enjoy that crap, but evidently some people do. Maybe she would. Its worth bringing up.

rando
09-14-06, 03:37 PM
just say the tires are flatted and you don't have the cash right now for new ones, but if she wanted to buy some... suggest something that wouldn't flat when she rode on them. she doesn't have to know they are "big people" tires. or you could just say the bike is in the shop for something else. she really needs to get her own bike. seems like she's using yours for too long. maybe she should RENT a bike! yeah, that's it.

I should be workin on a calc assignment that is due tomorrow. BikeForums is just too addicting. If I fail this class because I didn't do any of my work, I'm gonna have to sue BF for being too addicting! Alright, must...shut...off...computer. Must...do...CALCULUS!!!

what are good "big people" tires?

I wouldn't have a clue. I have a relative who weighs over 400 pounds, and he never in any way busted my mountain bike when he rode it. He did indeed bust the seat in a mini van, but never bike tires. I'm pretty well clueless. As I said before though, kevlar tires might be the way to go. Granted I have no experience with kevlar mtb tires, but they are extremely durable on my road bike.

The sidewalls cracked. These were new tires. Pressure was good. Tube didn't flat. Just cracked my tires!

 The only way I can think of preventing that kind of flat would be to fill the tire with grass or something else besides air. Obviously that ain't gonna work.

Come to think of it, lower pressure might work too. I figure when a larger person sits down on a bike, 65 psi could turn into 90.
