Foo - First!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

What came first? The chicken or the egg?
Reminds me of a joke:
the chicken and the egg were laying in bed smoking a cigarette...Chicken says: "so, who came first?"
:o
First member was Joe,
for an interesting read click on member search and then
click on Join date.
I registered in late 2001 and I'm on page 59 (and there are
2200 pages of members).
The first meltdown was in 2000 when the servers failed
I wasn't here then but I think we lost alot of posts.
D*Alex was the first member banned that I was
involved with. He knew his stuff when it came to bikes
but was pretty gruff at times. By todays standards
he should be a mod. . .
It took us (mods) quite a while to decide to ban him,
banning (except for spammers) was not taken lightly at all
(and there seemed to be less bannable offenses).
when I started the mods were (in no particular order)
Velocipedio, Fubar5, Xavier, A2psyklnut, Mediacreations,
Ronh, ChrisL, and Joe as Admin.
members long gone: Campag fetish boy, Greg, JonR, Astra, GordonP.
BTW SpiderMike has been here a looooong time, eh?
I also think that this is the second incarnation of Bikeforums, that it was
Bikeforums.com (?) before. Joe? care to comment?

My first post was in introductions.
That was "back in the day".
Benchmarks
I remember congratulating Joe when:
1000 members signed up!!!
100 members were online at one time!!
too many others.
I remember D Alex, I always kinda liked him.
Remember the guy who rode the unicycle who was killed in a car crash?
Too many others.

You can see what the site looked like when I launched it in 1999: http://web.archive.org/web/20000128214741/http://www.bikeforums.com/
We moved from the .com to the .net domain name when I lost control of the .com address. ISP went under, I moved, and Network Solutions would not give the domain back to me. It expired two years, and I had to pay $650 to get it back this spring.
Anyone remember when BikeForums was hacked my Al Quaida? The ISP closed off the .com server (luckly, we were on the .net at that time), both the FBI and CIA had access to the server for about two weeks. I recieved my first death threat.
a2, I remember when gnein died, heres that thread: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=2037
In addition to Lotek's members long gone list... I miss Ba-Dg-Er. I kind of think he is still here, with a new username... Steve33, DirtSquezeer. Good guys, very knoledgable.
