Like many members I use an alcohol stove.

Ignoring the issues around transporting said item on a plane (I've done it many times); I want to know about stove alcohol in the Netherands.

In Canada we call it Methyl Hydrate. In Britain they call it 'meths' but it's blue and they add a foul odour to keep people from ingesting it. How about in Netherlands? What do I ask for at the iron moungers and what does it smell and look like?

In the Netherlands you can buy 'spiritus' or 'brand spiritus' at most supermarkets.
(we seem to like using it for our fondues)
however, this is the same nasty stuff with the blue colouring to prevent drinking.
most outdoor-shops have better/cleaner burning stuff. at a cost..

'spiritus' is 0.90 euro per litre at the supermarket
the better stuff is about 2.95 euro's per litre

depends on the seller: 'bever spirit' is one for example. (bever is the shop, a big outdoors shop with multiple shops)

but most outdoor shops should have the better/cleaner burning stuff. just ask.
