Recumbent - I'm selling my trikes! (both of them)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

If I ask $1,200 each/$2,000 for both AB Tadpoles am I just ripping myself off? I know bents are not the most common thing in the world, but I also realize the market's a lot smaller for them as well, meaning there won't be as much interest in them. $1,200 each seems fair, but I'm starting to worry I'm only hurting myself with the "2-fer" deal.

I've yanked the ad for now.

Wow, why are you selling them? Are they still in good condition?

Yeah, why are you selling, if you don't mind?

My reason for selling them is because we just-don't-ride-them. They're hard to store, hard to haul, and because I don't feel safe riding them on the streets of my neighborhood, I have to take them to a park or trail (none are near) to ride them. This means they're a major PITA to deal with.

Right now I'm rethinking the idea of selling both trikes and thinking maybe just getting rid of the green one and the hitch rack might be a better idea. As much as I'd like to sell them both and buy a bent SWB bike, a past back injury has me convinced that a trike is a smarter idea. My other reason for waiting a bit is bacause after posting the trikes on Craig's List for the price I was asking, I got about 27 replies in less than 24 hours. It was then that I knew I wasn't asking enough and was probably only hurting myself.

Does anyone make a trike that's a little higher off the ground/more visible to traffic?

I live in an area with lots and lots of cell phone yacking "Soccer Mom's" in SUV's who have trouble enough seeing me when I'm riding my motorcycle. I shudder to think what would happed with me lying on my back, 9 inches off the ground with nothing but a safety flag and some blinking lights between me and the grill of a Range Rover. :(

I payed $1325- delivered to my door , new from actionbent (PreOrdered).
The one advantage you have is that you know everything is there and in good working order.
If you can find reasonable shipping arrangements (through a LBS?) or have a local buyer (even better), you may well be able to make a good chunck of your investment back. Also consider selling the hitch carrier seperately.
Are any of those 27 inquiries panning out in your favor? Or are you reconsidering the 2~few deal? If the trikes are in excellent condition with the hitch carrier, you should be able to cash out at $2500- one item at a time. It all depends on how soon you need to get done with the deal.
Do remember we are nearing the end of the season. You might also consider consigning with a LBS if you are worried about storing them, but this is not always the best deal as you loose control of the trike and you have to pay a commission.

This is one of my greatest fears. I guess that's another reason I went with a highracer.

Anyway, check out some of the delta trikes. Here are two:

If you want to keep costs down try Labent:

He may make you a framset.

Thanks for the ideas, but I went with a full-suspension two wheeler instead. Just picked it up this morning.
Now all I need is a flag and some lights and I'll be set for traffic and intersections. ;-/
