Mountain Biking - Shimano WH-M575

Was thinking about purchasing a set of these wheels.

As anyone had experienced with these? I know they are more of a XC wheels, but strength and service wise, how do they hold up. There is a local shop in town that is selling them for about $200US/set.

I've never been a fan of low spoke wheels, (I'm 225lbs +) but someone here recently got a pair and liked them. For $200, they seem like a pretty good deal.

They were already on my bike that I purchased. I've only had a chance to ride them a couple times so far with no problems. Personally I really like the look of them which is why I bought the bike in the first place. But if I was to go out and buy a new set of wheels, I'd probably go for some Chris King hubs and Mavic Rims. If the Shimano's break or bend or give me any problems, I'll post it but so far so good.

I just had that wheelset installed on my Trek 4500 not too long ago. So far I've been riding around 10 or so times and I love 'em!! To me the weight of the wheelset seems centered around the rim and not the spokes, making steering infinitesimally slower, but at the same time making the bike feel more sturdy. In a nutshell, I haven't had the wheelset long enough to make any final conclusions, but so far they're doing just fine.

Oh yeah, I paid $299 for my wheelset, so $200 for the brand new wheelset is definitely a good price to me:D

The new wheels and forks looks hot! Way to go.

I'd recommend it, especially at that price. We have a couple customers that had always had trouble with wheels going out of true and breaking spokes. Ever since they got a set of those they've been trouble free. Your own weight isn't necessarily an indicator of how likely you are to break something, particularly wheels-it's how smoothly (or not) you ride. These guys were both about 155 lbs.

I seem to have missed a slight bit of info when I made my earlier post. My wheelset is the Shimano WH-M540, not the WH-M575. I did a quick search on yahoo and they're a disc wheelset. My wheelset, the WH-M540 is not. I'm hypothesizing that it's one of Shimano's 2002 wheelsets because I can't find any info on the wheelset whatsoever on Shimano's website. I would think, however, that the WH-M575 wheelset's characteristics and specs would be around that of the WH-540's. Again this is only my assumption so if anyone knows otherwise please correct me.

You're correct, that model was the 535 last year.
