Classic & Vintage - Framese...paramount, panasonic....help

Found this bike at the local dump, it was equiped with Shimano 600 - took off the wheels etc, and set up a nice fixed gear. No one can say for sure what frameset it is, it has the serial number on the lower portion of the headtube and nice touches at the water bottle mounts and seatstays and the seatstays coming up to the top tube. Two things. Paramounts never had the serial number on the head tube. If you gave us the serial number we might be able to figure it out. Roger

Osaka-made Panasonics had their serial numbers on the lower head tube lug. My guess therefore is Panasonic.

Actually thats not correct. I had a OS3 with the SN on the headtube, as did all Paramount OS's I have encountered, as well as some others. In fact, I am 99% certain that the bike in the pic is a Paramount OS series frame. I had one and it was absolutely identical in all details. Nice frame, very nice quality. The Tange dropouts are consistent too.

You are correct as I have an 1992 OS2 that has that type of number. Somehow I do not consider it a Paramount like I do my 1974 P10-9 even though it is. Roger

I just got a '92 series seven paramount, and it has internal cable routing in the top tube. The lugs on my paramount are way more ornate. No serial number on head tube either, and the seat tube/stays look different.

Series OS 7s are actual Paramounts and were built by Waterford for Schwinn. The other OSs were imposters imported from Japan and just used the Paramount name. Roger

From what I read, the 3, 5, and 7 series bikes used the same framesets, but the 7 used the top group (ultegra/600). They did make a series 9c that had a kestrel carbon frame. I don't think the Waterford bikes used tange tubing either.

Serial number 7f01420. By chance, could it be a bridgestone? Maybe a RB1 model, just started my searches and noticed that some of the bridgestones had that unique looking seatpost clamp design.

My Waterford built Paramount OS has the serial number on the BB. Perhaps the macihine built Japanese bikes had SN on the headtube.

I guess Im looking for the frame that has the seatstays the come up and really run up high up onto the toptube almost. If you look at the pic I have of that, its different than the paramount pic here. The seat colar is the same, but the seatstays reach up high, a unique look that I havent seen yet.
